Hi just yesterday, on a sunny sunday early afternoon, in a crowded neighborhood, my son( 3 years of age) was playing in dad`s old car. I was gone for about 5 min, but he must have been playing with the horn for about that time...I`m happy the police didn`t show up Anyways, the horn is not working anymore, just goes click click everytime I push the button. So my thesis: electricity to the relay: yes. Function: obviously no! Here`s my question: Do I need to get an old school relay (DELCO D1742A), or does a standard, universal one work as well (e.g. Art. Nr: 0 332 019 103 Hersteller: BOSCH). I`d have to import it which means time and money. Or I could get one over here, doesn`t look the same, but would it work just the same? As I`m no electrician, any help appreciated Jens
You can get a replacement horn relay from Lectric Ltd and other suppliers. Todd sells them, https://www.stage1restoration.com/product/relay-horn-ignition-buzzer/
Looks like he's in Switzerland Larry. I would do some basic diagnostics first- Make are the horns are capable of working. How do you know the horns aren't getting power? Run a test lead to them from the battery. Does the key buzzer still work?
Yeah, I know he is in Switzerland. Reading his post, he says he has power up to the relay. I just figured if he was as anal as you about originality, I would give him that option.
I had the horn relay on my '72 GS fail, many years ago, honk the horns for a long time & smoked the horns
