Hot source to the A/C?????????

I've looked all through the wiring diagrams in my assembly manual, but they don't seem to cover A/C.

Heres the problem. My 69 Wildcat is an A/C conversion due to the donor body. I wired behind the dash with an A/C harness out of a LeSabre. I thought that was a done deal. But........under the hood this Red wire (pictured..see my fingers up top) needs to go somewere. If I had to guess, this would be the hot source. My underhood harness is not from an A/C car. So where do I wire this to? Is this a key on 12V source, or is it gonna be more complicated than that? [IMG]

Wire looks too fat to be stock. See where it goes and maybe you can remove it.

Are you trying to run AC??????????

If you are tring to turn a non-AC car into an AC car it is am amazing amount of work and proably not worth it.

Except for this one wire, and Compressor mounting, its allready a done deal.

I hooked up the compressor tonight to find out it is indeed operating, at least from a standpoint of receiving current. The only thing not operational is the highest fan speed. Could my mystery red wire have something to do with that?

    Hi Dan

Was thinking the same thing when looking at the pictures this morning. Scanned a page from the manual that may be helpful.

    http://chicagolandbuick.org/pdf/1970 AC Wiring Diagram.pdf

Those wires come out of the engine wiring harness (at least on Shari's GS 455) and hook up to a relay on the fire wall. Other wires come from the heater blower motor to that relay. That big red wire hooks up to the main red wire that come off the fusible link and goes to the connector thru the fire wall at the fuze block. There was a cross in that main red wire that fed the AC relay (the wire in your hand) and other that came off that went to the voltage regulator.

The little green wire in the connector at the end of the wire you are holding energises the A/C clutch.

If you cannot make heads or tails of the diagram, please contact me.

Thanks Loyd! That is helpful. If I read the chart right, my Red wire should go "from battery". Now I wonder if thats key on or not? And what the heck does it do?

I'll do some research for you. I'll get back to you later.

I suggest a new wiring harness. Mickey Mouse has caused many fires in engine compartments. Just ask Smokey the Bear. Shame to cook a car for a $150 new harness.

Loyd, The chart was the key. The Red wire is indeed to a hot source for full speed fan operation. I tested it as per the chart and all worked great! I verified it at the Boneyard by unwrapping a 70 LeSabre harness. I couldn't remember why I had this clipped wire. Turns out I musta traced it to it junction and clipped it cause the factory harness has the same length of wire going into a mutual soldiered conection that sends current to the Alt as well. Thanks for your help!!

Jarrod, no need to search, I'm in good shape now Thanks!!

As long as the wire is fed thru a fusible link that would melt/break the circuit before the current capability of the wire is exceeded. . . what is the problem ???? Dan is better than "mickey", who would not need no stinking fusible link
