How can I duplicate the rubber coating on the engine lift hook?

Have any one of you tried recoating the engine lift hook that is found on our GS's? You will find that it is coated with a rubberlike coating which is colored the same color as the engine(red). If there is a process, how can I get my hook done?

    Thanks!

    Carl-

How about some Plasti-dip from Home depot? You know, the stuff they use on pliers grips, etc. It comes in Red. If the color isn't close enough, you could probably spray the whole thing with engine paint. My coating was pretty good on mine and JW just sprayed the whole thing, so it's workable.

not exactly the same but close (better imho) is a dip product I got at NAPA for tools. recoats plyers and such, comes in red, blue, yellow and black. I degrease the part, air dry and dip coat up to 5 layers.

Bingo, just what I was thinking, plasti-dip, or similar product, Carl you may also want to check at electrical service stores as they have colored elec. coatings as well. liquid tape.

I have used the handle dip for years in restos. For example, another use is to recoat the hood bumper heads that screw into the cowl.

I appreciate the info, guys! I used a similar product from a spray can,and the results were not the same. I'll try the dip process instead.

    Thanks again!

    Ok, now you got me...

What engine hook and where? :Do No: I recall a circle on the rear of the block, but that is part of the block itself. I have a Chebby hook from 20 yrs ago that bolts on the intake, or is it really Buick and I got caught mixing parts again? :Dou:

Mike Garrison reproduces the Hooks - they screw into the fan shroud and support the upper radiator hose as it goes from the Rad to the thermo housing.

I believe it is Big Block only, 69-72

Yes, that's what I thought of first, too. I beleive that's called a 'lug', though

The part they mean is on the fan shround, as mentioned

    Here you go Dan...

I believe Carl is referring to this 'loop' (picture taken from Ken Lisk's '71 455 GSX)

    Hmmmmmm

The rad hook is a 70 only thing, & would be black. What Marco shown is the heater hose bracket. I don't recall mine being coated with the red plastisol though, maybe it was at one point. :Do No: Mine is Chrome now (no idea how that happened). :TU:

Carl is not referring to the radiator hook :error:

Heater hose bracket? The red 'loop' in the picture has nothing to do with the heater hoses. I think it's bolted to the block (or a head).

...now I'll have to look at mine when I get home...

No, it's the loop thingy at the top center in the above picture. Directly above the coil...

He's talking about the engine lift hook that goes on the 1st intake bolt on the right side. Yes, dipping it should work.

It was used as a heater hole support bracket on mine when I bought it 25 yrs ago. :Smarty: :Do No: :bglasses:

Mine too, on both of my GS's although I since removed it.

There is also a heater hose support bracket on non a/c cars but it looks nothing like the lift hook. It attaches to the intake in the hole used for the upper a/c bracket on a/c cars. So, non a/c cars should have BOTH of these units.
