How can I paint this?

I have this 400 rear side marker lens I would like to paint the 400 #s chrome. I bought a NOS marker a couple years back for one side and I have 2 others and thought I might try to paint one for the other side and try to match it close. Not really wanting to pay 50 or 60 bucks for a repro right now. Any ideas? I have some so-called chrome paint but it's a spray can and I don't think it turns out right unless you spray it on.

you have to take your time and mask it very good, use a sharp exacto blade to cut in exact forms also use templates and then spray away.. test your paint on an old lens.. spray starting with a light coat followed by another... good luck!

Ya like 67 said, take your time and clean it good 1st then mask it.

I've seen the new style paints at NAPA lately for the markers, I would go there and buy some of that special palstic paint to use.

They have just had a revamp of the paints that NAPA sells in the stores and they have a great selection now, anything from engine paint, wheel paint, drum/caliper paint, camo paint, bed liner paint, flake paint, spatter paint and more.

Check them out, I'm sure you will find what you need there.

    Good luck :TU:

+1 for the silver lettering pen technique, much easier, and less messier.
Just requires a 'steady' hand, and some practice ! :TU:

The use of this pen sounds better than spraying... You can always touch up and it way easier to use.. I would still mask up and test the pen on an old lens or plastic to get familiar with flow of the paint etc before you "paint your lens.. I learned something new here thanks guys!...

Got it thanks and I will look into that! :beer

I'm really a little leary about painting to match the original chrome #'s. Chrome paint always seems to turn out more silver.

The do seem to have that bit of 'shimmer' that chrome ones have.
    Nice work!

    Looks good.

By the way, what is that color? Dark metallic blue? Looks almost like mine.

Wow, 2 Daves with blu metallic 69 GS's on the East Coast! Cheers to that!

Thanks for your help. Can you help me with my other post about the seat belt guides? Maybe not if you have buckets.

My 68 GS Cali was "midnight blue"

I loved that color, it was a real deep blue.

It was a darker blue then your 69.
