It makes that awful metal on metal "cage" rattling/cracking when operating.

Is there a good lubricant for this? Appreciate your help.

    (Please don't suggest WD-40, lol)...

    Lithium, or even fluid film.

Some of that creaking could be the spring attached to the wire on each side of the rails.

And that's a normal sound that you just deal with?

It's rare that I see a top run that doesn't creak. You can lube the springs to see if they quiet down. If you can reach them. I don't recall if they are visible or not, once the top is on.

Shoot a 9MM without hearing protection. Ask me how I know…but hey, they do it all the time in movies

So no lubing of the "skeleton" framing?

You can lube it all you want. It won’t hurt.

...kinda, along with cowl shake, wind noise, having to play radio loud. If you keep it in your garage and only drive on sunny days, you don't have to put top up/down much:)...

...with a semi-auto rifle, ain't so much the brass, but eating hot unburned powder. My first "taste" was with an M-14 in basic. At least with a handgun, you can keep it at arm's length...
