Specifcally the GM 50 Tork bolt that holds them in. :af: I have broken two Tork sockets so far. I've tried breaker bars and impact guns. Whats the trick? :Do No:

  2. I've had a couple that I couldn't bust lose even with the correct torx socket, I was able to get vise grips on one and a pipe wrench on the head of the other. Just an idea.

You might try some heat, just enough to warm up that stupid "Loc-tite" GM is so fond of using :af:

If its in the floor or ewhere you can get to the back of it tri to clean off threads if not soak it from either side with pb blaster a few time over a few hours before you attempt to remove you will need a good name brand torx bit 1/2" drive .
get 2 or more you can return the on you dont use
take a booger pick and clean out the inside of the bolt so the bit fits all the way inside
tap the bolt with a ball peen hammer for a minuet not very har just enouph to shock it
use a breakerbar and tighten it 1st to see if you can get it to move then sounter clockwise to see if it moves if it dose repeat the PB and hammer and rock it back and forth just a little bit keep repeating this untill you get it turning
a good pair of vise grips can help too see it that works
if not w'ell go to plan B

I just went through the same thing with mine! Don't use a TORX, use an ALLEN HEAD socket (6 Point), with a 1/2" ratchet, and a Cheater Pipe! It loosened up and came out easily! :Smarty:

I cleaned the threads on the wire wheel, sprayed some WD40 on them, and put them back in, just like New! :bglasses:

    Good Luck, Bill! :TU:

Buy a good quality t500 bit from Snap-on, MAC, etc...
we use these daily at work and they don't break or round the 'hole'.
The T500 is slightly thicker through the splined part than a common torx bit is.

No, the T500 is just like the t50 but thicker in the spline. I have not seen one for the tamper proof style. I got mine off the Snap-0n truck about 9-10 years ago. They may have expanded the line for that style.

Thanks Joe - They sell something called Tork Plus which is thicker at the outside diameter. The splines are flat, not pointed at the ends. Is that what you mean? It would not fit the bolt. I haven't found the snap on man and their web site needs an account (Grrrrr...). They sell something called a T50 "GM stlye" which I'd like to try!

The T50 is just a regular torx bit. I was just looking at the t500 in my toolbox today, I think it is actually a TFX500E or some B.S.
But yes, the splines are almost flat and thicker, this fits all of the ones I have done.
