I'm rebuilding a 800 cfm carb to use on my '66 GS....After I glass bead the carb body, how do I restore it back to the correct gold color. I don't want to use paint, but would like to plate or dye it back to 'correct'.
Do I need to zinc plate it first, and then color it, or is there a one-step process that will do the job?
    Thanks!

Paint looks terrible. You can spot a paint job ten feet away. And that's before it gets spoiled by gasoline vapors and drips.

Far as I know, the only way to make it look right is to have it re-plated professionally. Holley Custom Shop used to do this, no doubt there are others. Don't expect it to be inexpensive.

  3. once I bought this stuff called carb dunk, no ****, carb dunk. It stinks and will eat your skin but the finish came out looking brand new after. Weither or not thats how it looked after leaving a factory I couldnt tell you. It looked good to me though

By the way...why would you use abrasive media on a carb?
