I bought a car that has a converted GS350/TH350 to a GS455/TH400. The new drive train is a 1970 455 and TH400. I rebuilt the engine and trans and reinstalled them. I did not install the dipstick at the time of the engine trans install and now the engine/trans is in along with headers and I cannot get the dipstick tube back in the trans...I have tried everything that I know... Any tricks on doing this??? Thanks Tim
I had the same problem. The tube woulf not install from the top. With the front end jacked up high I could install it from the bottom. Russ455
Transmission dipstick George. He can't seem to install it from the top. It is tight, but I've done it.
Ok, misread it.....you need to make sure you install an O-ring that will have a slightly larger OD when installed on the trans tube. Place a lil grease on the O-ring and slide it in place. If it does not go or attempts to go in......make sure the OD of the tube is clean and the ID of the trans case is clean.
I think he is having trouble snaking the tube (with it's various bends), between the heater box, engine, and trans. It probably has to go in a certain way and then be turned and moved for it to go in so that he can actually push the tube into the trans and bolt it to the correct block to trans bolt. I think that is the problem he is having (Tim correct me if I am wrong)
Ok guys I got it, I took the rubber grommet out of the trans hole then installed it on the dip stick first and it slid right in. Next time I will install before I drop the engine in!!! Tim
