How do you stop a 322 crossover from leaking?

Hi -- Cool board, it's a pleasure discovering you guys. I'm new and not quite sure which forum to post a question, so here goes:

I'm putting a '54 Nailhead in a little roadster pick-up I'm building. I've learned a lot about these engines, and as I get closer to firing it for the first time I'm learning more.

I'm hoping someone with 322 experience can help me out. I went to fill the block and radiator for the fisrt time, and have a pretty serious leak at the center of the water crossover, where it sits down into the top of the water pump. It's got a new O-ring, but man, it didn't seem like much of a seal when I assembled it.

What's the best way to seal this up?

    Thanks.

I gooped some RTV in there when I installed mine. It sealed well.
