We also have the same color car. Heritage Green?
I think I have a speedo problem - I always have believed this when people are passing me when I am driving 75 mph! I think that a couple of things are at play - undersized tires (Larry told me this when I was in Salem) and/or my car is supposed to have 15 inch rims on it. I really wish I could "add a gear" as I am also always looking to shift into 5th (or even 6th)!

Oh,by the way, I averaged 13.6 mpg (Holley spreadbore carb and more miles on the odometer than I really drove - it would be more like 12 if I factored in the 10 % over).

Hey Alan.Interesting.The farthest I have driven is 4 hours round trip. Not too crazy about buzzing my engine around 3 grand for hours on end to keep up with traffic.Probably spoiled by the OD trans in my late model daily drivers also. You didn`t have any concerns about your engine or keeping up with traffic?? Hey Kyle.Yea,Heritage green. We chatted a while back, you sent me some pics..you forgot a fellow "greener" :Dou:  I hear you about always looking for that next shift!! I still run a 225/70/14 up front and 255/60/15`s out back. You might have to check your speedo gears :Do No:

When I saw where you are from and checked your signature, I realized we had chatted! You changed your avatar! (is that an acceptable excuse?). If I put 255/70 R14 on the car (from the website calculater) if looks like it would put things right back in line!
Nice corresponding with you again - you got to get to Salem if you can.

Hey Kyle.Yea,I changed my avatar..better pic I think.I was kidding you earlier.215/70/14 is 25.9(26in)in the BFG T/A line, next up(and tallest)is 225/70/14 at 26.5.Not sure if this enough for you,you have to calculate.Other companies may make that size ,I have not seen it as I recall. Why not consider some 15" rims??.Later,Tony.

Tony - I have a good compromise in my setup

3.08 gears, 28"+ tires and the lower gearset for the TH400 trans.

This makes 1st look like 3.42's, 2nd look like 3.23's and third is 1:1 at 3.08.

Hey Alan.Another great idea. But in all honesty I can`t see the 3.42`s coming back out again for my 3.08`s,did this swap once already. And the trans I just put back in last spring(on my back,in the garage) no thanks again!! Good to hear all the ideas and opinions about hi-way rpm and distance.I have some time to put some ideas into focus but at this point it looks like I drive or do a trailer thing. Thanks for the info :TU:
    Later,Tony.

I drove to the Nats 13 hrs with 2.56 rear. brought 3.90 gears in housing in the back seat. Fit very nicely without the backing plates/brakes and axles.

Changed at the motel in BG.....no big deal, used the same axles and backing plates/brakes.....didn't even have to bleed the brakes since they weren't disconnected.

I had it done before my third beer. :beer
Only bumped the gas mileage from 13 to 16.....needed a tighter converter than the 3400 or go 85-90 to fully lock it!

....and I think I drank 5 or 6 watching you, scratching my head, and wondering "Is this guy for real ??? :Do No: "

.....pulling a rear housing out the back seat area of a GSX.....and then swapping it there in the parking lot :Dou: :Dou:  :beer :beer

Those were the days, Alan!!! Everyone was saying it was so much work but all I was doing was drinking beer lying under the car and getting my hands dirty. :Brow:

Hey and if the rear broke going down the road or at the track I had a spare.
