I ran this cam in my last combo, best time 12.2X at 109.Xmph, with 1.75 60'

    - `72 Skylark full weight 4050 lbs. w/driver, AC, TH-350, 2800 stall converter, 3.42 gear
    - `73 small valve 462 with 10.3:1 compression, calculated 7.7 DCR, never spark knocked
    - Head flow (home ported, professionally flowed) ~260/160cfm @28" and 0.500" lift
    - Cam installed at 108, IVC at ~70 ABDC, 1.6 roller rockers, SP-1, 800 cfm Q-Jet, 25 deg. initial, 34 total
    - M/T Scavenger headers, 3' mandral bent, Dr. Gas X-Pipe, 3"/3" Dynomax

Other cams with similar overlap: smaller - TA 288-98H, TA 290H - larger
Other cams with similar DCR: smaller - TA C118, TA 292-02H, TA 290H, TA 286-08H, TA-290-08H - larger

Not a lot different here. I have stage 1 valves, professionally ported but no flow numbers. 3:73 gears with a 200r4. 106mph I think there should be another 5mph in this car. I do think this cam is street gas friendly and sounds great.

I love my 413 cam. My best time was 11:80 @ 114 mph- 9 to 1 compression ratio- pump gas 87 octane- TA singe plane intake with 750 holley- stage 1 heads- headers supper scavenger 1 7/8 primary- uncapped-transmission turbo 350-rear end 4.10-tires 29.5 x 10.5 slicks- Altitude 4400 ft.-70 skylark had a lot of fun running the car.

Mike, was that compression measured or estimated. I ask because your time is great with such low compression (though you do have plenty of gear). This cam has a somewhat late IVC so it does not build a lot of cylinder pressure. Go ahead and add yourself to the pole by voting, thanks.

I had to go with estimated.I have old cast dished pistons motor was built in 1990 added the TA 413 years later. started racing by taking 69 convert to the track to get it to run better. best time with it was 13:16 et comp 182 cam great cam for daily driver. then did not want to cut in up to get lighter. bought the 70 lark

I dont have a lark but my 69 riv with stock tires 3.42 posi, 430 with stg1 heads and shorty headers ran 14.5 Oh dont forget points dist. and edelbrock 800. cant wait to run it with the new MSD and HP830!
I love the sound of this cam especially with 3" exhaust right before the rear wheels!

    Yey Mike,
Craig and I should be faster with more compression. Just shows that specs are not everything. I know that I left something on the table becuase my builder did not deck the block. But your low compression times give me hope. I am in the process of getting a new custom Bigs 950 built and need to find a miss I have at the track. Buy the way my Lark is 3900# with me in it.

Not to mention your carb is a bit small for your engine. Wonder how you'd do with a 1000 cfm carb ? :Brow:

I tried a friends bigger BG carb 1050 the car did not like it. I did have two 4'' hoses plumbed from the head lights to the air cleaner good for 3 tenths I also used every trick I could find to free up HP:pray: to break 11.99 short shifting first second (5200) 2-3 (5500)made it happen. I was shifting at 6000 rpm. RPM did not make more power (small block thinking ):Dou: with my car

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but why did short shifting from first to second, help your times? Please explain. Thanks.

    Regards, John.

Short shifting worked because it kept the motor in higher torque range to get the weight moving. that what I was told by a friend after he told me to try it. It worked. maybe some one here has a dino print out to see the torque is across the rpm range. I would love to see the print out max HP and max torque at what rpm. A long time a go i had desk top dino jr (dos) claimed 409 hp at rear wheels but the program was built for chevy and fords not are high torque motors

I run Poston's 113A cam, which is slightly milder version of the 413. My signature says it all. I love the cam.

I run the TA113a and went 12.21 at 109.8 mph. I haven't turned a screwdriver or jetted timed or nothing yet. Went twice and picked up from 12.30 th 12.21. I guess next season I'll mess with it.

What's the difference in these 2 cams? Sorry for my ignorance.

Good thread, I've been thinking about bumping up my cam when I can't get anything else out of tweaking my driving style!

Mike, I also found that by short shifting I get my best times. I was shifting at 5800 rpm, but I found by going with the 1-2 at 5300 and the 2-3 at 5500 I get a quicker ET and a little more mph. I had a day at the track where I got 11 runs in. Played around with all kinds of shift points before settling on my current spot.

Doug, I went from an 850 to a Biggs 950 and loved it. I run a loose 10" convertor and even with the heavy GS I just mash it off idle for my best 60' times. Used to have a slight bog with the 850, but not now :TU: Hopefully with the cooler weather here finally I can get into the 11.80's Saturday
