How fast is still safe, how fast did you go?

Back in the day I got my Buick up to "L1", however fast that was.... I recall it being a very erie feeling. But my dumbest "young and invincible" move was changing the gearing in my nitrous fed GSXR and tickling the 180's. I'm pretty certain I used up 8.5 lives that day. Pretty much retired from idiocy at that point, figured my luck was gonna run out. Now outside of some very occasional "spirited acceleration" I drive my Buick like a grandpa. ;)

Not a car, but I hit a buck eighty on my son's GSXR 1000. Pretty fast.

LOL, like a grandpa, I hear yah!
I know what both my GS and GN will do from my younger days, don't feel much like doing it now:D
One thing I have NEVER done yet with my GN is a full throttle start from a standstill, heck second gear wide open its nothing but wheelspin, I'll save my WOT starts for the track when I get DR's for the GN:cool:

Yeah - on advice of counsel I decline to reply. And I have a 2.73 rear end. :D

  6. 160 in a '67 427 Vette. That was 1971 when I was 5 years old.
145 in my brother's '83 Trans Am with only a Hyper-tech chip as an upgrade. could have gone faster but my brother chickened out as we were coming back from Battle Creek, Michigan to Athens, Michigan down M-60 at night doing about 110 and we could see cop lights turn on in front of us coming at us. My brother just pressed on the gas a little a we went a bit faster. [There was no way the cop could have caught us just by figuring simple mathematics.] As I was spouting figures to my brother he suddenly slowed down quick and turned onto a side street, went down a few hundred yards, turned around and cut his lights. About 3 minutes later we could see the copper go by towards Athens. We went home back roads after that.
Wouldn't you know it my brother sold that car to a dude in Australia. I got to take it to my prom in 1986.
I do not ever remember feeling any looseness either of those times. But in bigger older cars going faster I do remember "floating".
A buddy of mine had a front tire "blow" sort of on his 69 LTD on a highway doing 120. What happened was the inner tube BULGED out profusely and beat the front of the car senseless until they [obviously] slowed down.
I do not know how all of us survived our wild youths doing stupid stuff like going that fast without Z-rated tires, or even good tires for that matter.

I had my Riv at 5000 rpm in overdrive with a 3.07 rear. My car is lowered slightly so it felt snug to the ground. The thing I didnt like was that I was keeping a straight line but my hands were moving the wheele about 4 inches left and right. I havent done that since i replaced the center link though. The transmission is a 700 r4. A factory 1968 Riv will do 135. I figure at least 140 I hit. could be more.

I had a tire in the rear loose air and go flat at 120. It was in a 1968 pontiac grand prix. I did 3 big long fish tails letting it coast ounce i realized i was going flat. It was on a long sweeping turn . that was fun.
