How Hard, Worth It? Muncie 4-speed m-20

I know it has been asked before, even found a couple of threads, still not clear though. Who has done it? and is it really that fun? driving that is.
How hard to transform your auto to a 4 speed. My trans is fried and need to rebuild, however, found a sweet deal on a Muncie out of a 69 Comaro and may go for it.
I have a 455 bored dyno'd @ 425/500. I need to take this out to fix a pan/main leak anyway. I just had a new drive shaft made after I put in a Ford 9" and hope I can keep it since the tranny was a 350 (lengths?) Cross member movement tricks, and or tips?
Any and all advice well appreciated. Project starts after I limp the car down to the 28th Street Metro Cruise.

as long as you have all the correct parts to do the swap it is a breeze .did a conjversion on my sportwagon un under 40 hrs one weekend . bolts in the same spot as your th350 .

That is the kind of news I need to hear. Thanks.

I would also assume that there are some donor pedals around here as well.

Could you take some pics if possible. ie, hole in floor, pedal shot and maybe a pic of the cross member. Thanks.

my wife went on vacation took my camera . but you will need a lot of things to do it .fly wheel, clutch kit, pedals, hump for floor i used a 66 chevell hump and modified it to look like an original zbar ,clutch fork, fork to zbar rod, pedal to zbar rod .plus hardware .

    I did it too.:TU:

    Had a M21 that I had converted to M22 gears.:beers2:

It is basic wrenching, and it will cost you depending on how original you want to be.

If possible, buy a complete set up out of a donor car. It makes the job of searching that much easier.

I will tell you that converting to a 4 speed was absolutely the best thing I have done to the car. Rowing the 4 speed with BB torque is amazing....and the M22 sound is the best.

    Go for it!

I agree, its by far the best thing I have never done to my car.

TH350 to a Muncie is a direct swap as far as driveshaft, crossmember and crossmember to transmission mount are reused.

I have somewhere between 50 and 60 hours of labor, cant remember exactly.

Hey Dave H., I have sort of been away from my wagon & the site for a while. But I see you put a 4 gear in your wagon. Do you have any cool photos? I got my good heads/intake/cam on over the last couple weeks. I have accumulated a bellhousing, flywheel, and complete pedal assembly with every rod & spring from a 68 Pontiac A body.

Please excue the jump Iacovini. If you do it, share lots of info on your conversion.

No problem John, it is actually building more momentum for my decision.
Quick question though, if the Muncie is out of a Comaro, all I need to do is swap the bell housing to mate to the BBB correct. I have seen these for cheap, but everything else is there that I need minus hump mods and pedals (linkage?)

Yeah, gete a flywheel & all the pedal stuff. I think any A-body pedals around your year will work. I think the Chevy pedals were different, but if ya' had the complete assembly with the brace that covers the steering column under the dash, it will still work (I stress "THINK").

The Chevy pedals differ in the way the upper rod attaches. Get to correct pedals.

I have only seen Buick and Oldsmobile pedals to compare.

There are pics on the board that you should be able to compare your Pontiac pedals with. Please let us know the results.
