Does anyone know how this board is funded? Is it solely funded by the "board supporters"? Are the funds mixed with BPG dues? I didn't notice separate paypal accounts. I'd guess there is in excess of $3K (20, $100+ contributors) that has been gifted to the maintenance and upkeep of this board. Should there be a balance sheet available for here as well?
Right now, costs $3600 a year to run. With a million free hours from Bucy. When something happens that the techs at the host have to fix.. then that costs more.. We have a dedicated server, and this board is owned by TSP, my company. Last year, it cost me about $175 total to run, over and above the donations. Was cheaper to do last year, if we have any more major crashes this year, I could be looking at serious dough.. But I don't dwell on it. And no, this has nothing pysically, financially to do with the BPG, except me. Different paypal, and snail mail addresses. JW

I have posted this several times and I am a supporter myself. It is amazing to me that so many people use this board but do not think about giving even a small donation to the board. If every member gave $5 a year it would well cover it I do believe. Everyone likes to play but very few are willing to pay. Come On members step up to the plate and donate! There is no reason it should cost Jim that much money out of his pocket. Who hasn't spent $5.00 on something they could do without like a case of soda pop. my $.02 Mark

Not sure I agree with everyone, but based on contrary opinions on past posts, I must thread cautiously so as not to "pick a fight"... Truly thats not the intention. Yes I enjoy this board. Being an active member of the GSCA, I enjoy their board. Being an active member of the Chicagoland Chapter GSCA, I enjoy theirs as well. When I joined the BPG, I mistakenly assumed this was the associated board. Heck... the support in which I received in my race car project, the forums I thoroughly enjoy (race, street/strip, and for sale), and friends I made were the prime drivers for me becoming a member of the BPG. Shame on me. Not once, but twice. In comparison to the other clubs in which I pay my dues, I enjoy this board for zero cost and I agree it's a bargain. The related BPG board doesnt have nearly the same value and I find the GSCA and CCGSCA newsletters superior. Let's see, over 8000 members. If everyone gave 50 cents, there would be over 4000.00. Not realistic, but something to think about.
That's Ok John, don't worry about it. I appreciate your thoughs, but would rather have you here adding valuable input, and also belonging to the BPG. I am also a GSCA member...have been since '88, but their board (and the club website) is like a ghost town every time I go to it. You've actually gotten value from it? I do agree that the GSX-tra is very good-and it's worth my membership.
Jim Weise: I will also be forwarding funds to you for the operation of this board, as promised in my original post when I joined a few weeks ago. The information and assistance I've received from people on this board has been nothing short of outstanding! I am more than willing to provide financial support to keep this program up and running. What they need to do is set up a 99cent a month members fee. I would still leave a few sections of the board open to anyone. So new people can come in and get basic help but to get full access and run of the board. It cost 99cents. Cheap cheap cheap, no one would have a problem with it. People could still get general help for free but charge a few pennies for the full run of the place.
It would be nice if we could eventually have a link here on the board that a person could go to to make a contribution. With options for snail mail, paypal and regualr credit/debit card donations. It would make it easier for people like me who do not do paypal, and are too stupid to remember to do snailmail. ou: Just a thought. :TU:
I think it would be helpful if the board wasn't like PBS. Where only about 25% of the viewers donate but when things go wrong. 100% of the people wan't a voice. If you pay your 99cents a month you can then give your 2 cents on how things run. If not you would be restricted to just tech friendly Buick talk in the free sections.
That would run off many of the members and JW has said he will never do that. The great diversity of exprience and opinions being shared is what makes this Board so great. So you need everyone on Board even though they may not feel a need to contribute.
Exactly.! ! And if they can eventually get a link to make it really easy to donate...there will be a lot more people who do so...me being one. I have been planning to so for some time but absent-mindedness has kept me from it.
