I/we got tired of paying 200.00 a month for cable, and internet. Got a Firestick from Amazon, hooked it up this evening, seems pretty good, the picture is actually sharper. Cant wait to call WOW Cable and cancel the cable service.
Still have Directv but getting tired of paying so much each month so exploring options. We live out of town so outstanding internet doesn’t seem to be an option.
Ditched the Directv about a year ago and streaming with Firestick. We pay 45 bucks a month for live HULU and we also get Netflix. Still 1/3 of Directv's $180 a month. We don't miss it either. I was a DTV customer from the day they started. Only now, do they start sending me offers to return for much less..
Dropped cable TV about 4 years ago. Just have internet. I'm not a big TV person, but do like to get my news. I can stream it which is great for me.
Have Dish. @ 100 a month its about 1/2 my total bill for the Windstream bundle. Without the Sat using just the antenna Id get 3-5 channels and so far out in the woods that internet is hit and miss.
Been 3 or 4 years without a cable bill. Firestick, Hulu , several other free apps. Refuse to pay, done with that. Save thousands a year .....
Had Dish for over 20 years, eventually downgraded to their $35 plan but cancelled that too. Now streaming Philo TV for $16/month..... mostly watch Motortrend TV, AMC, BBC news and AXS. Verizon FiOs is $43 a month for internet. Ting for phone averages $15 a month. Woodstove for heat, drive a 19 year old Jeep, Planning on early retirement!
We dumped cable and got a Roku box. Tons of free TV and some pretty cheap live stream options as well.
Abandoned cable 5 years ago. Never had Direct, etc. Have streaming, Roku and Amazon Prime for video. I have a flip phone and Page Plus ($11.55 / mo.)
Ditched DirecTV a couple years ago and have zero regrets, wouldn't go back to it at 1/3 the price. We do the fire stick thing now as well.
Same here - 5+ years. Not that fast internet only is cheap here but still... I've never missed TV one bit.
I think it was two years ago I switched to DirectTVNow streaming service when they were offering free Apple 4K TVs. Its now branded ATT and has gone up $20-30, but its still cheaper than what TW/Spectrum cable was. Just pay them now for Internet. That with Netflix/Hulu/Prime and I've been good.
I like that statement, alot of truth in that I pretty much watch two channels, History and Science channel. Wife watches her drama channels. 200 bucks a month to watch 4 channels NOPE!
Put that 200 bucks into the engine! I got rid of Direct some years ago now all antenna and internet good enough for me.
Ditched Cable TV years ago. Keep cable just for internet and Amazon Prime/Netflix for TV shows. Amazon Prime lets you add and drop channels by the month so you can add something like HBO just to watch a particular show and then drop it again. For local news I have an antenna clamped to a chair in the current rental. Had an outside one previously. Check out https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps to see what you can pull in. I'm currently a good way and the wrong side of a hill from the nearest transmitter but even with the antenna inside the house I get local ABC and Fox plus a bunch of PBS stations in 'better than cable' digital clarity. Oh - and once you've bought the antenna - all for free The web site above will give you compass directions to orient the antenna but then most TV's have a signal strength meter built in under the setup menu to fine tune the positioning and orientation of the antenna to get the best signal. I've done the same for 5 years. Cable promos are good till they sock it to you after promo is over. The cable company rewards new customers with deals, buts craps on all their long time loyal, pay every month subscribers. Threw the air HD antenna is great for areas that can receive stations. My second home gets zero threw the air stations, so I cable & internet for summer months then disconnect. That reminds me, have to turn in my box! Netflix, Prime, etc. have more than enough to keep you glued to a movie or program for hours on end with all those "series" they have.
