I already have a set of 15" ralley's with 225/60's on them and am getting ready to order a set of 15"s for the back. I wanted to go with 15x8 but dont know with what backspacing. I believe 4 1/2 is stock but I want to run 265/60's or something around that and want to make sure they fit right.
    Thanks

A 275/60/15 works well on an 8" rim with 5" of back spacing.

The 15x8's that you'd get from Specialty Wheel or Wheel Vintiques come with 4.5" of backspacing. And then if you go for the 15x10's, you'll have about 5.5" to 5.75" of backspacing.

You can get 5" backspace with an 8" rim from either of these companies. Got mine from Wheel Vintiques via CARS in New Jersey.

I realize that. Just letting you know that 4.5" on an 8" rim centers it in the rear fender well.

What I guess my question would be then, is there any advantage to going with 5" of backspacing in comparision to 4 1/2"?? My fronts were new from wheel vintiques 15x7's with 4 1/2 backspacing. I have just heard that most people run a little more backspacing in the rear with 15x8's and run a good size tire. I just want to make sure the wheel well is filled up nicely.

I ahve a 72 Skylark with 15X8 rims with a 5" backspace and I run Firestone 295X50's with no rubbing issues, they fill up the wheel well very nicely!

That is allot of tire. That is why I was wondering about the backspacing. I dont want to be limited down the road if I decide to go with a big tire.

I have 295/50/15 0n the rear that fill it up nice, :3gears: :TU: only had 1 problem... 1 time when I got on it around a right corner I produced some wheel hop, and tore the tire. new shocks, bushings and no hops are in the works. I still went out and bought a new 295/50/15 with no fears!!

I am also in the process of purchasing a new set of rims for mine, so....does anybody know if a 275/60/15 will fit with 4.5 inches of backspacing? :Do No: I already ordered the 15x7's for the front from Summitt, but the 15x8's they have listed have 4.5 inches of backspacing. I don't want to have to cut the fenderlip to make them fit.

Thanks for the link, I have also run 295/50/15 on the Cragar SS rims I have now. I did have some rubbing issues with these rims, although I don't know the backspacing. I tried to measure them on them on the car today, but I can't really tell without taking one off. Will do that tommorow, I will probably able to tell from that. I'm trying to get less gearing with a taller tire, so that link helped out quite a bit! :beer Running 275/50/15's now.

You will be fine with a 275/60R15 and 4.5" BS on a 15x7 rim. Ran that combo for a while on mine.
