Glen, I weighed my GS at the Raceway. Full tank of gas, about 50 lbs of tools in the trunk. I weigh 160 lbs. With me in the GS, the scale said 4338.
I weighed my Stage 1 on the scales at Quaker City and with a 1/4 tank of gas /without me in the car-3,997 lbs. I would say that with the car filled up,the weight would be in the vicinity of 4,150 lbs.
i was thinking the same...i'm about ready to start stipping mine down to save some weight. the sound system has to go, the a/c is going to go (maybe on the sportwagon ) and try to find some lite wieght bucket seats.... what makes these cars so heavy? i know i've seen some that can get near 3300 pounds....so what gives? edit: (just thought of these) the 64 special came in at just a tick under 3000 pounds and the 65 wagon comes in right around 3400 pounds...although thats the factory numbers, i'm sure they are different real world... daniel
thats wieghing almost as much as my old 67 caddy coupe deville! almost...that was a tank, sure wish i still had it daniel
Daniel... check out the link below and see the "how to" Buick diet. http://www.buickperformance.com/wgtloss.htm
thats a great read! my lark is going to be a straight line car for the next few years, but i'm going to try and keep cost down...then later down the road i want to get it really lite and set it up for road racing might just get a regal for that duty though, i kinda like the gn's that are lowered and goes around corners thanks daniel
My guess is: The difference between an AC and Non-AC car would be between 75 and 100 lbs....just a guess?
sounds like a pretty good guess....besides saving some weight it will really make getting to those back two spark plugs a lot easier! now i just need a day to start stripping it all down....
the book states its at 3435 without air on the shipping wheight new. and 3499 withair shipping weight new. got this out of the standard catalog of buick 1903-1990 Greg
This is right out of the 70 Chassis manual, page 00-6. 3738 lbs for the 44637 Hard top, 3762 lbs. for the 44667 Ragtop. Only 24 lbs. differenceo No: , that can't be right. 122lbs for gasoline, 40 lbs for antifreeze. I have huge sway bars, and the big heavy chrome factory wheels. I'm sure my car is right around 4000 lbs. without me in the driver's seat
What is really astonishing is how heavy our cars are,but when you take them out and drive them, they don't feel like the weight slows them down. I think that if the typical GS weighed as much as a Chevelle, you would not get the quality ride and handling like our cars.
