how much is my engine worth?

    ethan buicks rock!

Hey there... I'm seriously thinking about pulling my 300 and dropping in a 455. The 300 runs great, but it smokes a bit and is probably in need of a rebuild. It has given me no problems since I've owned the car. It has a cast iron 4v intake and a Carter carb from a '65. Any ideas how much it is worth?

    Thanks!:TU:

I thought I would post a reply since no one has. I am certainly no expert but I did buy a 300 engine for my '64. They seem to be easy to come by. I gave $150 for an engine that had been rebuilt and had 15K miles on it. That was for the engine without intake, heads or exhaust manifold. Good heads are available and I have seen them go for $50 to over $100 each. A 4 bbl manifold goes for around $100 or more each time one turns up on e-bay.

That is just my experience and observations. It is certainly always worth what the buyer wants to pay.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

a common rule of thumb for engine pricing is $1.00 per cubic inch. This is assuming that it is stock without aftermarket performance parts and in reletively decent running condition.
