hi i have a 72 skylark custom...does anyone know what it would cost to have the underside of the car sandblasted?? i mean i figure me and a few buddys would unbolt the car from the frame, lift the body onto a flatbed(off the the shop it will go) and do the frame repaint/rust reform myself...and have it all redone...is this wise? would the company not put it under warrenty? or does it all depend on shop to shop...im trying to save as much money as poss. so anyone who did a restoration like this or in general please give some input
If you remove the heavy undercoating where/if it exists that will lower the cost. Blasting just the underside of the car should be around $200 - $350. Much depends on the condition and how bad the rust is. If its minor surface rust it will be lower, heavy scale rust and it will be higher. If you leave the undercoating on its going to be more because cost of blasting is for the most part relative to labor/time. If you have more than one blaster in your area shop around not just for price but for quality as well because blasting services are like anything else you buy.
