What you want to do is get the car in the air and remove the vacuum hose going to the modulator and take a flat head screw driver and start to screw it in this should aid in the kick down screw it in until you like the shift points I would start with 5 full turns

OK I'm not sure what your saying. My 350 turbo shifts into third at part throttle a very short time after shifting into second at part throttle, like in town. So which way do you turn the screw in the modulator to raise the shift point into third at part throttle? :Do No:

You want toturn the screw inwards (clockwise) the more you turn it in the longer the shift point, I had the EXACT same problem!!

the second cable (not the throttle) going to his gas pedal may be the one he needs adjustment at. I too would be curious on how to do this. When I did my swap, that cable clip broke at the pedal and I had to re-attach it with no way knowing where it was set originally? :Do No:

Take the caps off, it means you are yelling at us :Smarty: You want to adjust the kickdown cable, the lower cable. There is a rod at the end of the cable with a spring clip. Position the clip towards the firewall, then floor the gas pedal(engine off) and it will self adjust. This is assuming you have the stock cable. The kickdown cable should reach full travel when the gas pedal is floored. The modulator only adjust minumum throttle shift point and feel.

I wish people would explain all things as clear as that. That is the part, thanks for the visual and the instruction.

so what your saying the only way to adjust shift points is withthe vaccum modulator.i thought the cable going to gas pedal was some sort of adjustment.my car shifts fine through the gears but when im driving slow it should kick down to lower gear and it doesnt.like when your driveing about 10-15 miles per hour and you floor it,mine wont kick down to 1st gear, stays in 2nd gear.thanks Ray

No, the kickdown cable is just one adjustment. The trans determines shift points from 3 inputs. The governor, modulator, and the kickdown adsjustment. Your trans isn't kicking down because the cable is wrong, or not adjusted correctly. Not sure about the 73's. Let me research this a little. I'll geet back with ya :TU:

On my 1969 350 / 350 I was having the same kick down problems and went to the local transmision place. All the guy did was spred open the clip on the Trans cable at the gas pedal and move it up until it was all most snug again and re-crimp it. Now it down shifts as it should.

Note: another problem with the older turbo 350 is the ear on the case that hold the module in breaks off! If the proper "fix" plate is not used to repair this the module can and will back out of the transmision under exceleration and cause it to upshift to soon. Again this ear on the case is a common problem (breaking off) and there is a repair piece sold for that.
