How to Find Members in your Area?

Unless I overlooked I haven't seen a method on this site to locate members in your area. Many member profiles list a location but there's no search feature (that I'm aware of) to find people in my city/state/xxx miles of zip code....ect.

Now I know there's nothing stopping me from putting out a "where my MN buick peeps at?" post though not nearly as effective as a database query to help find and connect like minded people

 

A few years ago we had an interactive map going, but the thread died due to a forum upgrade.

OK, I just added myself to Michigan USA. BUT, it requires approval from the map owner, and I have no idea who that is and/or if they're still active on V8Buick.com.

Edit: The map admin is Erik "Bad Boattail", but I don't think he's a member here anymore.

Will update if I get approved.

An interactive map, even better!

From what I gather from poking around this could be grown by individual contributors adding themselves to the map or someone adding it for them. Either way you need an active admin who is currently Erik B/Bad Boattail located in Amsterdam. The location with the members V8Buick profile page's web address is essentially the key input information for a map like this to have value. With only 69 locations it wouldn't be that much of a loss if it had to be restarted due to a MIA Erik B.

Perhaps it could become a permanent feature of the board itself?

Appreciate the search recommendations and all the background to previous work on the effort. As you eluded to there doesn't seem to exist a free platform that could cater to the amount of members we have which is unfortunate but reality. With a bit of hunting I can easily find members in my area though my initial hits are yielding members that haven't been active on the site in many, many years.
