    hello,

I am going this weekend to check out a 350 that was pulled out of a 1970 GS-350, and the current owner
believes it is the original 315 hp engine-but isn't sure.

I appreciate his honesty!!! Most people would probably just say yes.

Is there a particular casting number that I can look for on the block and /or heads???

I could deal if it was the "normal" 285hp four barrel engine, but not the two sucker.

    any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

Should be two letters (SP) on the drivers side block deck, I think it's right near the dipstick tube. Bring a small scraper with you to clean the gunk off to be able to see it.

    Good luck.....and congradulations!

There is a code on the block(SP)THAT IS BETWEEN THE #1 AND #2 SPARKPLUG on the block. Look between the exhaust manifold and the head and you will see a small flat area. This is where the code is .You will need a scraping tool and possibly a good flashlight to see it.Be careful not to scratch too much because the stamping is sometimes hard to see.

    another question-

what are the other codes for the other 350's used that year???

for the above, are the same casting codes used in 1969???

    thanks
