Hey guys, I though this might be the right place to puts this cause everyone hear knows headers suck...

    I have a question,

all of you guys have beautiful cars, how did you restore the exhaust manifolds?

Which product worked the best? How long has it lasted and how many street miles.

Recently I got lucky, I called an ad, I mean I found a set of BBC exhaust manifolds out of the paper. There the good ones, end in 178 and 179, dated C-18-9 and C-4-9. They are in nice shape but I have to blast them and restore.

Any ideas for a lasting fix

    Thank you Mike

    68-70 L78 nova coming soon........

They just started a new external Cast Iron coating for exhaust manifolds. They charge about $75 a side, and that includes hot tanking and blasting the manifolds clean before coating.
I used to use the Eastwood paint. Every year I would pull the manifolds, have them blasted, and then repaint adhering to the instructions. The paint always faded and started to surface rust by the end of the season. Last year, the new coat lasted exactly 3 minutes into firing up the engine. Then all the paint flaked off and the rotating fan blades whipped the flakes around under the hood. I thought it was snowing! No more. I had them coated, and hopefully now they are DONE for good! Here's a pic of the finished manifold.

Jet Hot does cast iron color coating of manifolds.

Tim Clary used a place in western Mi. not sure of the name.

I was turned onto QC coatings in Shelby Township Mi by Dan Jensen to do maifolds in cast iron grey.

It seems there are lots of options now.

Someone on the board just posted after he used a POR-15 hi temp paint which looked good...waiting to see what happens when they are on a running engine!

Casey Marks used POR exhaust coating once. Hated it. said it was far worse than the Eastwood as far as smoke on start up and the manifolds corroded in 1/4 the time.

I have a guy near me ceramic coat the manifolds in a cast iron color and they stay perfect and it doesnt "wipe" of on your arms when you change plugs. He charges $150.00 for both manifolds. Later Jim

Ram Air Restoration Ent. ceramic coated my manifolds in factory gray. They've been on the car all of a few months and I've got maybe a couple miles driving on them. Lots more time idling and revving in the garage :Brow: . Paul Delfeld told me that for a limited use car like mine, the coating should last 5 years. Price for my small block olds manifolds, $150

I've used them several times. They usually have the job done quicker than scheduled. They also powdercote frames, body pieces, brackets etc. Get a quote first. They stick to their quoted prices.

Are there any "paint on" coatings that are worth using? I would like to give mine a better finish but I don't want to remove them at this time.

    :Do No:
