Hi guys, I need help &/or trade secrets on how to attack & remove the upper control arm bushings from my '68 Riv. I've got an old NHRA guy w/ manual & hydraulic presses at my disposal, but his needlegun w/ chisel attachment only bends the lip of the bushing up or cuts through it. The arms are out of the car & we ground through the welds & pressed out the ball joint, but no luck w/ the bushings no far. No air chisel at my disposal, either. Any bright ideas out there? Thanks!
It's not the prettiest way to do it but you can take a drill with a long bit and drill through the old bushings til you get most of it out ,then use a hammer and chisel to cave in the lip of the bushing shell then just work them out that way by collapsing the shell. Then use large sockets or have a shop press them in.The socket and hammer method works but is a little more time comsuming.Just take your time.
machine shop Hi Jeff, Thanks for the play-by-play. Sounds like a big headache, & the local machine shop only wants $10 a pop to R&R those bushings. Worth every penny in my book! Thanks!
