Anybody know of any good resorces for how to rebuild a TH400. Would prefer something online that I can read and print. Good detailed pics would be a world of help too. Also need a good source of parts at as reasonable price as possible. The parts will need to be able to hold 600+ hp in a heavy car. I already have a manual valve body but the 2nd gear clutches are toast and need to be replaced. I'm thinking I'll do them all sense it will be apart.
Here you go. Not a replacement for a tech manual but it should help. If you have any questions PM me. http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58578
Do a search on this board. Nailheadina67 started a thread awhile back & the TH400 guru chimed in & walked him through the whole build. Pictures, part numbers, etc. Very long, very interesting, especially for a novice to understand. Good reading.
By all means get your hands on this book: "How to Work with and Modify the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 Transmission" by Ron Sessions. Amazon carries it. Devon
http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=69003&highlight=transmission+rebuild This is the thread. i would buy a book too. i did mine last year and used the book by Ron Sessions. I bought it from amazon in the used section for $12.00. between the book, the thread and asking a few questions i was able to rebuild mine. good luck, dave
There are also videotapes available that walk you through it (available through the Eastwood catalog or Motorbooks). Armed with just the videos, I have rebuilt mine a couple times with without issue (especially when just throwing new friction material in there), and have diagnosed and repaired failed transmissions a couple times. I also have had at least two occassions when I couldn't figure them out and had to take them to a shop. I am not above having someone more knowledgable bail me out when in trouble!!
