I have curved glass on my gauges and I hate it because of the reflection. Is there a different year gauge glass I can buy or I have to make somethingh miself? Also I'm thinking of changing the broken clock for a tach. '71 Skylark Thanks!
Hi Freddy, You can buy the flat dash lenses, they are avaliable as repros from some companys. Like this one: http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/home.asp Maybe not the cheapest but they ship overseas.
Read this article on George's site for how to remove the gauges - it was very helpful when I did this on my own Buick. http://www.buickperformance.com/cluster.htm
Your 71 is supposed to have flat lenses...don't know how the early 70 pointed lenses ended up in your car.
Thanks for the links bigblockbuick70 and V8Sky :beer No idea, btw my speedomeeter is in kilometers not in miles.Canadian thing maybe?o No: What year had the flat lens bezel and what year they had the pointi ones?
Car built in Europe or for the European market? Ever decide to change to Imperial I'd like to get hold of the speedo. We didn't start using SI in cars until about '78/'79. '70 had the pointed lenses & changed to flat for '71. Believe the reason was the same issue you are having with glare.
How can I find out if my Buick is an expot model? I'm sorry but since we are using metric here, I don't want to changei to imperial. Maybe someone changed the flat lenzes to pointed ones in the past?o No:
Check the VIN tag on the cowl, LH side, just below the windshield area, under the rear edge of the hood. Get a pic & post it here or simply copy the info. & post here.
Even if the pointy ones would not have the reflection, I still don't like those. But thanks for the input!
Don't recognize the letter(s) directly after the 44437 XX? Looks like FL1? Beautiful colour combo.........Rosewood & black vinyl roof.
Don't know. My Chassis manual indicates build plants for '71 Buicks as C,G,H,X,Y & Z. Each letter indicating a different plant. Mine, for instance, is Z. This indicates the car was built at the Fremont, California plant. Experts will chime in here soon & fill in the voids.
European built model year 1971 Buicks all have the H for the Flint factory in their VIN. Swiss built Buicks carried this emblem in their grille: Next to the Body Number Plate under the bonnet, Swiss Buicks also had a plate like this: (model year 1969 Riviera, with the Flint H) Belgian built Buicks had a plate like the top one in this photo: (model year 1975 Electra, also with the Flint H) Bottom plate is a German ID plate.
