i just bought an edelbrock performer 1910 850 quadrajet to mount on my 455 skylark. the motor has a b-4b intake, 225-235, 113* cam, power band from 1800-5500rpm, 10:1, ported stage 1 heads, headers. does anyone have any suggestions on how to set it up for everyday driving? thanks for the help!

The 1910's came with at least 4 different idle system calibrations that I've seen. They are also prone to many factory machining errors. Otherwise very good starting points for a really nice carburetor.

The accl pump is junk, we sell a much better replacement for it. The .149" seat is overkill for most set-ups, but OK if you have a fuel pressure regulator or low pressure pump.

They are just a tad rich on the primary side, and some of the idle calibrations that they used are extremely "generous" for idle fuel delivery.

The best advice I can give is to strip it completely down, and go thru it to make sure that all the holes are drilled, such as idle bypass air, POE wells, etc. Upgrade it with good parts, and set up the idle system for what you are doing.

I've build scores of them at this point, and not in one single instance did I use the factory idle system calibration, or not find a minor problem with one someplace. I even found one that didn't have a jet pocket machined at the correct depth, leaving one jet apprx .100" higher than the other one, so don't leave any stone unturned during the rebuild.

Good news is that they are excellent castings, extremely rare to see on leak at the bottom plugs, etc. When you get done, it will be an excellent unit, and provide many years of trouble free service........Cliff
