I have a 2" rubber valve cover plug I found a local wreaking yard that is stiff. I would like to remove it without causing it to crack anymore. Is there a way to soften the rubber a bit? for example, soaking it in mineral oil?

    Thank you,

Silicone will put life back into rubber if it is not too bad.

Not sure what the equivalent is, but, your local print shop should have a product called Rubber Rejuvenator. It's used on the rubber rollers to keep from hardening.

Armor All may work just as well.

I think you're referring to FEDRON. The mining companys used this to keep their big 'ol rubber rollers from deteriorating. I just thought about that and I have some of this stuff here at work and I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tips!!
The rubber parts I need reconditioned are not available at CARS unfortunately

    Thank you
