Ok guys, tomorrow I'm going to go look at a 1972 skylark. How can I tell if it's a GS or not? (The dude who is selling it isn't sure..) I read something about looking at some type of code..but I lost the website I saw it on. So can someone either link it to me or tell me? He is selling it for 4 grand and even if it isn't a GS I still might go for it..but I'd like to know for sure. It just needs paint he said..he sent me a photo via picture message through a cell phone..it looks nice (Running black primer) Tomorrow when I go see it I'm going to take pictures and post it to let ya'll guys get a good look at it and tell me what ya'll think. !:bla:
You can check the VIN better yet, call the guy and ask for it. Could save you a trip if you decide you want a real GS Should be something like 4G67K... - G being GS check http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/buick-gs/buick-gs-specs.shtml#VIN A skylark would be 4D67H... D = skylark G = GS
I just did..he isn't at home right now so I guess it'll have to wait until I go up there in person. (Which is always better anyways) I'll write it down and post it up along with the pictures.
Alright I went to the site and jotted down the information. Thanks a whole lot! Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Ok guys..hopefully these pictures will work. here yall guys go. He is asking 4,000 grand for it...No power steering but it comes with the things to fix it...etc etc...nothing too major...but..you know.
Love the horn button on the dash or is that eject button?...lol Car has some good points... minus duct tape... Great pics,,,,
Beat him up on the price if you really want it - there is a lot of rust to take car of on that car (and I think it is a regular Skylark - doesn't have a GS hood or the holes in the front fenders for the GS badge) . Looks like you will need a new hood or more metal welded to the front. I'm guessing the trunk has a lot of rust from the water that went through around the back window.
Yeah looks a little rough for $4k If it were a real GS 455...Id think about it So much rust on the front of the hood, that Im sure the core support would be gone too. And that rear window rust.. no one re-pops that area. Its a pain to fix. Id say its a good call to pass on it.
Run for your life. That car is too rusty in too many places to cost effectively repair. It is really just a $500.00 parts car that happens to be running.
The VIN will tell you if it is a GS or not. 4G is a GS, 4H is a Skylark Custom. It has the Skylark Custom grill in it now. 5th character is the engine. J is a 350-2, K is the 350-4, U is the 455, and V is the Stage1. That car is a rust bucket though.
I agree with Jim too, rusty cars are just a money pit. There are plenty of other cars out there, put your money on a better one than that.
