I almost had to go to jail tonight.....My son called and needed a ride home from football practice. So I hop in the GS and take off. The high school is only about 3 miles away so it's a pretty quick trip. I get to about a quarter mile from the turn in and traffic comes to a halt, there is a long turn lane so I slide into it and I'm moving along about 40 mph with the stopped traffic right along my right side.....I put my foot on the brake because I don't trust that everyone will see me...I'm glad I did as right about then a guy in a Suburban whips a u turn right in front of me, I locked em up, nail the horn and slid long enough to think "Oh Chit, I'm gonna hit him!!" I come to a stop inches and I do mean inches from his back wheel...He didn't even stop!!! :af: He gets on the gas and turns on the back access road to the school. Now I'm ticked off and I nail the gas to get to where my kid is waiting...I pick him up and I see my new buddy turning into the other end of the parking lot...I hot foot it over to his car to tell him he's an A$$ and that I've spent a year and almost 15k getting this car finished. It was close enough that I checked for damage!! Scary!! :af: I think if I would have broad sided him I would have needed to pummel him after I drug him out of his car :spank: :spank: :spank:

I think I'd have done about 15K worth of damage to his face and told him, "There, now go get it fixed. I'll be fixing my car, a$$hole!" Sounds like a fair trade to me. :TU:

Glad you and the Buick are OK.

Last summer on the way home from a cruise nite some lady I was following in a Grand am just slammed on her brakes at 40 MPH........good thing I was not following too close.......but I did lock up the brakes........lucky nobody was behind me. Then she had the nerve to make a u-turn right in front of me! :af:

i dont get that. I get more people cutting me off when i'm driving my buick than i do in any other car ive ever driven. don't people know that these cars are old and take more room to stop. I rember the girl in the malibu (woah.. maybe the same one twice) who was on an off ramp line and at the last second w/o a turn signal whips her car infront of mine and dosen't even attempt to accelerate, and I need to lock up the rear wheels.(it is kinda cool seeing the white smoke curling up behind you in the rear view of a convertible w/ the top down like the vapor trail behind a plane)

another time a malibu coming out of a side street pulled about 3/4's of the way into my lane at her stop sign. I have never seen my car stop so quick. and i had 4 wheel drum brakes then. I haven't had any problems now that i have power disc front brakes. go figure.

  9. The bigger the car the more likely someone is to pull out in front of you. I had countless people pull out right in front of my Suburban (with a big gap in front AND behind me). I always had headlights (with roof markers) and 4 fog lights on and so it's not like they missed me. And when I drove a bus in college, EVERYONE pulled out in front of me. Must have been a lot of people in Toledo with a death wish.

That would have been and old fashion justifiable plain old A## whiping that guy had coming. At least in the eyes of the buick community.

I agree, but the guy was falling all over himself apologizing and offering to pay for damage, if any. When I got back in the car my son told me he was a science teacher at the school and "Dad, I thought you were going to get crazy". I guess I was a little animated!

Its getting to the point where its just not worth it to take these cars out on public roads anymore. From people talking on their cell phones, to reading and generally not paying attention. Its getting bad out there. I was next to someone last week driving while feeding their miniature dog water. People nowadays do everything behind the wheel except drive. theyre oblivious to cars around them. They drive applinaces. Cars to most people are like dishwashers and washing machines. So what if they wreck it? Bring it to the body shop and let the ins. co fix it. Who cares. I have steep gears in my GS so Im usually plugging along in the right lane on the highway. I cant tell you how many people get upset that Im not doing 75 mph. They purposely cut me off as they pass me. And my friends razz me about not taking my car out alot. Frankly, with $2000 worth of plastic grille up front Im scared. Its safer at the track

I've had lots of people cut in front of the Riv. Glad to hear it was a miss! In all my years of driving... uhh that would be about 8 actually. The only vehicle that people have avoided was my old 86 ford f150 I've found that people will keep an eye out for a big truck that obviously isn't worth the gas in the tank. And I drove it like I didn't car too. Depending on who would have been in the wrong and what year/condition the suburban was, probably would've plowed right into him.
