    Heres the Scoop:

After ordering the TA Flywheel and the oil by-pass kit sometime last monday, I didn't recieve any response emails other than the order notification. Having had a problem with every order I've placed with them, I got antsy Saturday morning and gave them a call. After holding a good 5 minutes, I got a sales guy who was actually pretty helpful. Anyway, heres what I got: Flywheel is on back order, expected to arrive later that day and ship out on monday, and the bypass kit should be in by mid-november. When the guy told me mid-november I nearly lost it. The only thing holding me back was he was helpful. I like to think I'm a reasonable man, but this is about my sixth order with Year One, and I've only walked away happy once. Every other time I order something from them I get the same song and dance, a long back order and they seem to have no intent on informing me.

I understand things get back order, That part is an inconveince, the aggrivating part is the lack of notification. that is what kills me.

And another thing, they claim to be the leader in restoration and performac parts, yet they seem to keep little to no stock. Whats the Story??

Anybody else have any trouble with them?? I'm done. I'm writing a formal letter of complaint and then I'll never even thumb through the catalog again. I'd like to hear some other scenarios to make my letter more knowledgeable... Thanks

Lord do not go to OPG then. YO is a 1000 times better in this regard.

Generally after having dealth with most of the suppliers I would say YO is one of the very best.

I had a HUGE problem with them over my interior, and I ordered a hood bumper, part cost like 2 bucks and they charged me 9 dollars for shipping and handling and I've already had that one and one other break off.....I bought about 1,500.00 dollars worth of stuff, that was the only 2 things I have issues with......but what do you do, I ordered a catalog from that other place (OPG) more than 10 months ago and still haven't got it, don't need it now but I'd still like to have it to order a new hood bumper.

Sorry about your experiance Joe. But you should know by now that very few suppliers keep any Buick parts in stock.

Out of curiosity, why didn't you just order directly from TA??

I have only had one experiance with Year One, and it was satisfactory. I had ordered a "complete" stainless steel bolt set for my 455. It took a reasonable amount of time.

Anyway.....parts problems is just part of the game when dealing with our Buicks. :Dou: :Do No: :(

    YEAR ONE woes

I ordered the stainless (premoulded brake lines from them) WELL lets just say that I am not sure what they were pre moulded "for "but is wasnt for the buick skylark. I had to do a lot of bending and moving them myself. I am very displeased with that high dollar product. Half of the time I have ordered from them they do not tell you that they are out of stock and they take forever to deliver and you have to call back and find out the info. Just my two cents

The only reason I didn't order directly from TA is becasue I was getting 2 parts, and the oil kit is from poston. I though it would be easier with only 1 order.

    convience I guess...

I still don't know why people go anywhere else except Classic Tube for lines. Be it, brake, fuel, whatever. Those guys are a top notch organization and that's ALL they do.

Part of the battle with Year One, or any other vendor for that matter, is if you can cross reference and know the "Chevy" counterpart (part#) to the Buick part that you need, just order the Chevy number and you will be sure to get the right part. Any time the word Buick enters into the equation with these places, it's apt to get screwed up.

I tossed out my catalog from OPG, thats what I think of them. I have had decent luck with YO, and the best luck with The Parts Place in Chicago

I would say this is a fairly accurate assessment.

I've had minor issues with YO, but nothing that wasn't resolved to my satisfaction. No problems at all with orders from TA. Haven't used any other major Buick vendors yet, such as Poston, OPGI, etc.

Oh yeah, The Parts Place has been good too.

Year One has a very high percentage of stock outs and backorders.

Their web ordering is problematic as well.

I have been restoring cars since the early eighties, and used to do a lot of business with them. Never had good luck. So, now I don't use them at all.

I like to use other suppliers who truly know the definition of customer service.....Good examples are Coan or Summit Racing. :beer

This site needs a forum for Good/Bad Suppliers....Mods, are you listening?

Paul that has been talked about in the past but I think it was duplicative of the list that is being kept on ( until the last hack attack) Smartin's linked site ---Buick parts directory.

Somewhat off topic here, but not too far off. My buddy vends at Spring Carlisle and Year One is close to us. Anyway, long story short, one of their people came over looking for a Trans Am part to purchase for his car, he was trying to dicker on the pricing :eek2: --we told him that the part (TA scoop) that he had in his hand was for show and the real part was on back order and the price that was on the scoop that he had was the shipping cost.
Needless to say he gave us a "pissed look" and walked away mumbling.

My friend and I have had nothing but bad experiences with Y1  and what goes around comes around. We no longer purchase from them.

    That is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I think Year One originated the "shipping" (read extra profit) ripoff game that lives on on ebay.

I've done all my purchasing in the last 16 years with Poston and TA Performance.
Never had an once of trouble with either vendor, and have no reason to go anywhere else. (I guess until I need something that neither one of them has)

I thought you guys would like that. You know, if they were up front with their customers maybe they wouldn't get the negative publicity. You should hear the Y1 "salesman" promise the moon and the stars to potential buyers at the show--it almost want to make you puke.

We just shake our heads and laugh.

    Take it easy.

the oil kit is old-school. The better alternative is the grooved cam bearings...All available from TA.

I havent had any problems with OPG yet. They seem to be good so far. Jim, what problems have you had? As a rule, I ALWAYS ask any part supplier to make sure the part is IN STOCK before the order is placed. I hate it when the box arrives and half the stuff is on back order. And they never seem to tell you the truth about when the back order is going to get filled. If its out of stock, I don't order it....period. Same holds true with CARS. No problems so far. I know alot of you guys have your CARS horror stories, but so far so good. I ordered their repro Buick mats for the 70. They look awesome and were shipped fast. In general if you dont ask a bunch of questions before placing the order, they're not forthcoming with all the info.
