Sure was nice to see it. Shame Ken wasn't there w/his as well. Nice to meet you as well and see your car Gary.
Hi Rich, I can speak to the '72 Burnished Copper car, my wife and I drove it the 550 miles to BG from Iowa. This car had been discussed on the board as far back as 2005. I bought it in 2014. Originally a 350 auto, notchback bench. Ordered by the same VA dealership that ordered a few other GSX cars in '71. When I bought the car, it had been sitting outside for the 9 years since 2005 when someone on the board had taken several pics of it. It was very rusty when I bought it, really wasn't much more than a parts car at that point. Every body panel other than the hood and trunk lid needed to be replaced. 2 full qtr.'s, doors, fenders. Interior had been getting water inside for what looked like years, basically the only thing in the interior that was decent was the rear seat and the dash bezel, which I restored. Took a giant mouse nest out from inside the headliner, from under the rear seat, and out of the trunk when I was taking the car apart. Carpet and door panels were completely water damaged. All floor pans were rusted out, trunk pan had holes, etc. The original drivetrain was long gone, it came with a 455 that needed a rebuild. Decided to rebuild the 455 and also put in a Muncie 4 speed and buckets. I know the purists don't like that, but we love to drive it, it's a lot of fun with the stick. Got the car done in summer 2016, so almost 2 years to get it restored. Thankfully, I had a lot of parts saved up. We had a great time at BG, I am sorry you couldn't make it across this year. Looking forward to next year. Take care, Rich
Dan what was the story on this Bittersweet mist 71 GSX again big or small block option load for sale or showing?
Rich, See attached photos. I should have taken more than I did before I took it apart. Thought I had a pic of the headliner mouse nest which had to be close to some kind of record..... Regards, Rich
I didn't really catch much of the Back story. The owner was talking to @Mike Sobotka before I walked up.
Darren thank you for the pics of my car. By the way I got first place in the "D" modified class. Fernando
Here's the story about the car as it was posted on Facebook awhile back. The "GSX 3" license plate in this photo was on the car at BG. I never got an opportunity to speak with the owner on hand to get any additional details.
Rich, As a side note, I thought of you when I saw this car because it is #602 and sold in Canada and one of yours is #603. Also, the GSX my dad restored back in 1989 was #607 (white, Stage 1, Auto, A/C).
Thanks 72 GS what is the factory option load on your 71 GSX? Does it have any optional gauge cluster rally or tach and gauges ,F41 rear bar, PS, P drum or disc Brakes ,N25 Bumper? I see it was a D35 Sport mirror car is it a factory rally steering wheel car? Thanks for posting
Hey Rich, Original options on the '72 were: TH350, power disc brakes, power steering, Sonomatic, rear speaker, super wide oval group, custom front and rear belts, speed alert, tinted glass, door edge guards, sport mirrors, carpet savers/handy mats, convenience group, instrument group (gauges+tach), rallye steering wheel Regards, Rich
Hi Rich, The other GSX on the trailer belonged to the Patrick family I believe. Car was owned new by currents owners Dad I believe and they just purchased it back recently and car runs and drives but had just blown a trans line when they loaded car to bring to reunion. In talking with them they were excited to have car back and are gathering parts to restore at some point.
