I dropped my gas tank and this moldy, crappy peice of paper was on top of it. I was pretty dumb-founded to see that there. has this happened to anyone else? :eek2:
Thats a very common place to find them take VERY good care of that piece of paper.....maybe even have it laminated. Its like your birth certificate except you cant get a new one if you loose that one
I need to drop my tank soon. Hopefully I will get lucky and find it there. I am the 2nd owner and know most of the history of the car. When I bought it, it was all original except for tires, belts, etc. I already checked in the interior, so maybe it is on top of the tank! Brian :3gears:
Geez..... There are TONS of people wishing they could find there build sheet! Save it no matter what the condition.:TU:
I'm thinking about dropping my tank this spring too. I already have the car up on jack stands, waiting for my 15" swap to be completed. Wish the gas tank wasn't full though. 'Spose I could come up with some containers to siphon most of the gas into.
Found mine about a month or so ago when I had to drop my tank to empty the deisel I accidentally pumped into it. ou: I was happily surprised too. Dan
Here's my Production Order Body Final. It was found on top of the gas tank by the previous owner to me. I sent a copy to Duane, and he decoded it for me. The first box on the second row is ORN, or ornamentation, it has an "L" in it. That is Stage1 plaques without body side trim moulding. This was my first piece of proof that said my car was an original Stage1, the original block and trans were long gone. Later, I got microfiche documentation from Wayne Roberts, that also verified my car as a Stage1.
I found mine years ago when removing the tank on the 71. Mine is very dark. I read an article somewhere that soaking it in turpentine will lighten it up, but I havent had the guts to try it. Ive also found many of them behind the back seat. The ones behind the back seat are usually stuck between the seat springs. You may have to remove the hog rings and peel back the seat covers to remove it. There should be at least two copies floating around your car. The build sheet on my ex-GSX was underneath the carpet over the tranny tunnel. The front console bolt went through it. I have also heard that they have been found above the glove box and behind the instrument cluster by the windshield pillar. Happy hunting! Jason
papers sometimes the factory did put the wrong paperwork in the cars. if anybody gets one for the wrong car, they are still well worth saving. if it doesnt apply to your car, list it in the paper trail section along with the serial number if you can read it and maybe you can help someone else with theirs, its worth a try. hoping duane will see this. henry
Henry, I hear ya. That's how Greg Gessler got the original buildsheet for his car. It was on top of someone else's gas tank and they listed it in the paper chase section. I also received a copy and decoded it. Then I sent the "free" decoded copy, along with a letter, as a small thank you for everything he has done for the buick community. He was very happy. That's what this BB is all about. Duane PS. I can use copies of any and all 65-72 GS/Skylark buildsheets that I can get. Each holds info that I could use.
