Paid a guy that had a business on FB doing barn roof coatings (asphalt and aluminum coating) to coat my 60x80 metal barn roof. Claimed 25 yr warranty.
He did job but was not happy so coated it a second time. Called him a few weeks later since 1/4 of it was peeling right off. He said that happens some time....
25yr warranty??? How bout 2 weeks.....?

Tells me he will give me $1000 back on the $2600 job. Asks for my address so he can send a check. Kinda odd since he was here twice...should know it.

Of course now he is a ghost and his business not showing up on FB.

Any ideas? Paid with check....any recourse?

I think that your pretty much screwed imo. Looks to me like your window of opportunity to stop payment on the check is long gone.

He used a very low quality product, did a poor job at prepping or both.

Yep small claims, and you’ll be able to collect when you win because you have his bank info on your cancelled check.

I was working on my nephews property and was approached by a traveling crew doing metal roofs on pole buildings. I sent him on his way. He kept dropping price till I told him it was time to leave. I’m sure it was some sort of scam.

Anybody selling door to door is a scam, from roofs to driveway paving to solar panels and magical cleaners.

Not necessarily, if he closes that acct or has $1 in there, hard to get blood from a rock.
Sometimes a judgement paper is only good to wipe your rear end with.

Yeah...door to door hard sells get turned away for sure. I fell for the FB page with pics of other jobs and good comments. I should have known something was up when I asked him about elastomeric coatings that he showed on his FB page. He said he didn't do them......

The 25 year warranty is through the supplier of the coating. I would call that company and thell them your story, maybe they can help.

No idea who supplier of product is. He had a big tank sprayer mounted in truck.

I think part of scam was him coming back a week later to re-spray. That way the window of me stopping payment of check passed......

I do have his phone number but I bet it won't work for long. Of course no response to text or call but I can bug the **** out of him until then......

He didn't give you any paperwork on the product with the invoice?

Nope.....and he wrote 15yr warranty due to condition of roof. I said I was fine with that....probably be dead by then.....

I had a ‘traveler’ try to get me to pay to seal the driveway. Started at $2k, was down to $800 by the time I got less polite about ‘no’. He was in a beat up truck with out of state tags and a tank of some dark oily liquid. I’m glad my less polite ‘no’ worked. I can get very impolite if need be, and I really didn’t want it to go that far.

That stinks! It's so hard to find competent people these days. Keep in mind that milk and bread have a "lifetime warrantee".

Kinda funny, I was telling my son right after it was done that the guy seemed smart and well spoken and said he could probably have been in a better career.

    HaHa smarter than me apparently......o_O

Probably didn't do any prep work. It won't stick on dirt. Gonna peel right up.

There was pollen on it and rust areas....seems to be peeling where there was rust. The rust was main reason I did it...to stop it. Barn is at least 75yrs old.....He claimed no prep or primer needed. He said stuff is tough to get off hands....have to abrade it off.

Winning in small claims court is one thing, actually getting the money is another. Ask me how I know.
