I don't know how many shows you have been to, but the more you enter the more you will learn. Can you imagine the controversy I experience when I enter mine in the stock class with the wrong motor in it? How could a stock Riv compete in a modified class with blown chromed up chevies and fords?

I see people walk past my car not even noticing it to look at the chevelle next to me and they say "oh, I remember that interior!"

Then there's the people who pass the chevelle's and mustangs by without looking and come over to my car and say "it's so nice to see something different" "this is the most beautiful car I have ever seen at a car show"

One show I was at it seemed like everyone was voting for my car............I saw them with thier ballots looking at my number and writing. When the show was over, I got nothing and some junky car with reflectors pasted all around it won my class.........I got nothing. Afterwards, the show producer came to me and apologized............he told me I missed best of show by one vote. ONE LOUSY VOTE!

Now we just go for the looks and compliments and if we win something OK, my trophy case is overfull anyway.

What is more priceless than a Chevy or Mopar guy who looks under the hood of your Buick with his eyes popping out of his head and says "I never knew Buick made a dual quad motor????" They are the same guys who think a Riviera and GS is not a muscle car.........until they get spanked by one!:Brow:

     Priceless.

win , lose , or draw

there is something about judging at carshows & there will always be except at major shows or national events . costs money to hire qualified trained judges . i go to the carshows for the fun & pleasure of seeing the vehicles & to meet current & make new friends . some guys are just too competitive .
why not just enjoy the day !!

    Well said John.

I have a friend who constantly labors over how perfect his car is or isn't. Because he is so hung up on perfection he never takes his car out to enjoy it. I am everything he is not when it comes to that. I am a perfectionist of sorts as well, but when it comes to these cars, I love to drive them and appreciate them for what they are, not how many trophies they win or don't win. I know what the car is, therefore I don't care what the Chevy Ford or Rice crowd thinks. Most of them are still clueless about Buicks anyway and will probably remain that way.

That's exactly why I now have a rule about never entering a show that charges me to enter. I mean JEEZ, I build the car, and have to pay YOU to display it ????????. Not going to happen..:moonu:
I've decided that if I ever go to a car show again, I won't display a card so as I won't be judged. Just too many attitudes, hurt feelings, politics, etc...:Do No:

    Make everyone else feel jealous.

After the awards are handed out have some buddies come over with a 6 foot gold trophy, a big ass blue ribbon, and a plaque. Along with lots of hand shakes and pics taken.

Toss in a giant check to spice it up.

No one will have a clue.

heh.. i goto car shows/cruises in my area all the time.. i'm usually the only buick there.. there's always this "burn out" contest crap at the end by some of the bigger cars... not many people paid attention to my car while it was sitting there.. i fired it up though upon leaving and instantly got looks from all over... seriously, no one expects my car to sound like it does ( and it's pretty mild compared to some of the cars on here lol) and most people can't tell the difference between a 455 and a 350, to them it all looks the same... i pulled out one night after a cruise there and everyone's doing these little burn outs... i stopped it in the right most lane... dropped her to L1 and did the meanest 30 foot burn out you could imagine.... got a couple thumbs up from the ford/chevy guys that ended up passing me later on.. did i mention chicks dig the buick? :)

My boy and I went for a burger and they were having a car show at the place. We backed the '70 Stage 1 in where there was a little shade which helped the paint look a little better and wiped it down, along with the engine compartment. We got 1st place ,,,,,, Best Street Machine. The GS is totally stock appearing with factory 15X7's and even the stock air cleaner. A '71 Malibu with a stock 350 and Cragars took 1st in 'Best Musclecar'. Go figure.

    Hi All,
Let me put in my 2 cents...
I go to quite a few car shows and cruise nights, there are a lot of them around here in the summer. I have never taken home a trophy. It used to bug me, with out bragging too much , my car is really nice. frame off, nice paint, looks right etc. however it has a few things going against it to appeal to the "pedestrians" at the local gatherings. It is a Buick(what's that?), it is white,No magenta flames on a flip flop pearl base..........
No wings, dubs, hydraulics or any Bling whatsoever.
My joy comes from the one or two people who always discover my car in amongst a sea of others, and stand there slack jawed and drooling and babble things like,"I have never seen one of those" or "OMG a big block AND a four speed". I think like most of us , my car is only recognised by the ones in the know, the ones who truly appreciate it for what it is. That works for me:grin:
    Cheers, Adam.

totally agree here.. every once in awhile i get someone who goes "woah, that's a 455 in there"... or "wow, nice paint" or somethin along those lines.. my car is far from perfect... i wish i had the money for a frame off like you.. the car deserves it for surviving for 32 years and one day i'd like to give it that. but my car never wins anything, it won't win every race against the chevy guys, it won't win the nicest car or anything remotely close to best of show or anything. but there are those couple people i meet that know what they're talking about and they make it all worth it, not all the kids with their fart cans or the chevy guys laughing and thinking their's is the best.

what's even better is in my quest of having fun with my car... i teach the younger than me crowd a bit too... up until i talked to them about my car.. they thought buick == grandma car and slow... well they know now that grandma had fun when she was younger, because to them smoke == fast.. and i'm darned if i can't provide lots of smoke :) hehe but they also know buick made a bigger engine than chevy... :p 455? what's that? so it's all good.. the older guys are hard to convince.. but the younger kids will believe just about anything ya tell them, don't lie, tell the truth and they'll be better off than their parents
