Yesterday I purchased a nice clean '72 formal coupe from a gentleman I know who is 96 years old and a sharp as a tack and really loved his Buick, I hope I'm as agile and smart as he is when I'm 96! He told his son in law and daughter that he didn't think he would be driving much anymore and that he would consider selling his Centurion, his son in law told me about this (his son in law has a sweet '56 Crown Vic Ford and a '39 Plymouth) and when the gentleman heard that I was interested in his Buick he was very happy to hear that the car would be going to a guy who loves and appreciates Buicks, I also have a '70 GS Stg.1 car (currently sidelined for the summer with a wounded transmission). And have had a '87 T, a Park Ave and a SC 3800 '99 Regal in the past. We struck a deal on the price and I drove it home to my place, cruising the 40 miles or so along @ a smooth 65-70 mph with out a hitch. The car has buzz windows, speed minder, am radio, no a/c, vinyl top and rallye wheels for options and just needs some better quality replacement trim pieces like bumper guard rubber, etc. and a fresh paint job. The car has been heavily undercoated over the years and has about 102,000 miles on it. He purchased it from the orig. owner back in '77 so this makes me the 3rd. owner of the Centurion. I'm going to send for the pkg. that can be purchased thru GM of Canada vintage vehicle services that will document the orig. dealership, options, and number of that style of vehicle sold in Canada so it should be interesting to find out how many got sold up here in the north. It's gonna be pretty cool to own a big comfy muscle cruiser! Here's a few pics of the Centurion... http://public.fotki.com/buickjef/1972-buick-centurio/
Great score, the car looks great in the pictures. The Chevy man in me wants to call it Bamboo Yellow, what is the name of the color?
Congrats! Beautiful (Sunburst Yellow (?; 56?) w/ brown vinyl top: I love that combination) Formal Coupe.
In 1972, the light yellow color (paint code 56) was called Sunburst Yellow. See http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1972-buick-pg01.jpg
Nice! I'm a closet centurian lover myself:TU: It's sunburst, same as my suncoupe.I think they named it wrong,it's a pretty dull yellowou:
Congratulations on your Formal Coupe, Jeff! I really love mine. Yours appears to be a nice example. You don't see many Formal Coupes around. Did you know the Formal Coupe has a smaller rear window than a standard 2 door hardtop? The factory installed a filler panel, and then sloppily filled in the seams...so they could install he vinyl top.
The 455 in my 65 is out of my 72 centurian. I loved that car. I have run this engine since 1989. Only 2 rebuilds. Good luck and nice ride.
Been shinin' and polishin' over the weekend, and the Mrs. and I went out for a meal last night in the Centurion, took her a few minutes to get the shoulder belt set up adjusted right for her but she loved the cruise. Nice way to end the day! Robert Earl Keen song sums it up perfectly!.. "Daddies got a Buick and Momma loves to ride!":Brow:
The Hunter Green convertible in the middle is my Centurion (at least I spelled it correctly...ou: ). I've given Bill Holder, the writer, crap about the misspelling since the book came out. Really a nice guy, however. He took pictures at the BPG meet this year of many of the GSX's in attendance.
