We are 99% sure we have an original 70 GS stage 1 but the original block is long gone. My uncle had the car for 15 years and sold it to my dad and I 3 years ago. From what we know the car was ordered by a girl in harrisburgh PA. the second owner took the engine out at some point. Since its been in my family its had several 455's in it. Now it has a 70 455 block, not sure what from. but its a 462 now. My uncle had light head work done, a hemi killer cam, a holley 800 double pumper, 3:55 12 bolt installed, headers, 3 inch exhaust, flowmaster dual chamber mufflers and a 3500 stall converter. I'm really interested in gettin this car reconditioned right. The exterior is very good. The interior is gettin redone this winter. I'm in need of some front inner fenders thou and don't know of a source for repro ones. The car is red with a white (eggshell) top and interior. We are still debateing on restoring it to red/white, triple black or an apollo white X. I love the car but G-bodies are my passion. But since they are slow this is my go fast car. I think the current set up should get me mid/high 12's after its tuned up.

My dad is a state inspector and has been a mechanic for 30 years so gettin the work done is no problem. I need to know what the best aluminum intake would be for our car. we want to put the ram air back on rather than have an open element but learned from a local former buick guru that we might have a clearence problem. Maybe some of you remember a guy from pittsburgh called "the doctor" his last name was kravitz. he had a sick 70 X in the 80's. He was a local at my dads shop.

my dad also wants to dump the headers, they make way to much head and they keep blowing gaskets cause the one bolt just won't seat right. Should we get an iron set ported?[IMG]

Hi, and welcome to the V8Buick board!

We're all pretty friendly 'round these parts, and a first name in your posts would be greatly appreciated :TU:

I run a factory Stage1 registry and I can tell you your GS can DEFINITELY be documented from a third party. This will help you be 100% sure you have a factory Stage1 car. If the VIN is before 0H193xxx, contact the Sloan Museum. If it's after that sequence, Wayne Roberts can help you. Contact information is on my website. I hope you would consider registering your GS.

There are different forums here, and just pick a forum that would attract the most attention. For example, for better exposure to your question, you may want to ask 'What is the best aluminum intake manifold' in the street/strip 400/430/455 forum.

    Good Luck, and again, welcome!

Greg Gessler is the man you want to talk to if you want cast iron manifolds back on. He ports them out to get the best flow out of them. You can get JetHot coated headers to keep the heat down. And with T/A's pink header gaskets and the new allen head lock bolts, keeping them locked down should be no problem.

An Edelbrock Performer intake is OK. You can always remove the Edelbrock name off of it. You can still use the factory ramair air cleaner with it. That's what I ran for a while. But if you go to an SP1, forget it. It's a drop base element for you. That's what I am currently running.

Getting the inner fenders isn't too hard. Guys here have them from time to time and they come up on ebay every month or so, so don't worry about them. The passenger side is the tougher one to find. But they do make repair panels for that side for that under battery rot that is so common.

    Good luck.

    Phil
