just did a tilt column for my chevelle, I cleaned it out and had it all apart, re-greased everything, but I did something that just came to my attention that I messed up, when I was putting the column back together I tack welded the tube shaft (Not the steering shafts) tube shaft that moves the trans mission shift linkage, "the shift collar with the shift handle" the dam thing kept sliding in when I was re-assembling the column, so I had the bright Idea to weld it that way it wouldn't get out of position, I welded 1/2 inch 2 spots, not sure if this is colapsable anymore:Dou: and I DON'T want to take it all apart to fix that

anybody out there know what piece I'm talking about?

Those are collapsible as a safety feature in case of a severe wreck. As long as the coulmn works OK, and you don't plan on wrecking the car, what's the difference? :Do No:
