Everybody hang onto a brick, dont mind the 115 MPH winds associated with this hurricane. Just think if you were on vacation!!!!

Cross your fingers.... right in the path!

Spent all day battening down the hatches at the shipyard in Tampa. We've got a 550 foot floating drydock, a 200 foot floating drydock, two big old 400 foot barges belonging to customers, and a whole fleet of motley floating work equipment. And that's just us -- there's even more at the yard down the road, along with all the other ships and barges in the port.

With all the stuff in this port, it's about impossible to moor anything that large well enough to resist a 100 MPH (& more!) wind, especially combined with a 10-14 foot storm surge and the accompanying wave action. (Note: land is about 4'-0" above MLW around here.)

We get a direct hit, there's gonna be ships and baots and barges and docks everywhere, hitting each other, whaling into bridges, etc. Gonna be ugly.

On a side note, the Carnival Celebration just left port to avoid the storm. Two storms out there whipping up waves -- sounds like a fun cruise. They'll be selling dramamine jello shots on the aft deck.

    I know how you feel!

Bonnie is wetting us now and Charley is supposed to come over us as well. This is why I decided at the last minute to stay home.

Put everthing up and hold on!

Keep us updated and post some pics if the wind doesn't blow y'all around.

Take care and we all hope y'all make it through with no problems.

geese oooo petes. I feel for you but then again you should of know better. Like people who build on the side of hills or next to the Mississippi river. You better have killer insurance or be able to afford all new stuff every year or so.

I tend to have little compassion when your asking for it.

I do live near the lake but far enough away that the most I have ever seen is a few inches of water. The lake side people are asking for it and about every two years they get it good.

I just got off the phone with my dad/family down in Sarasota. He works at the Home Depot there and he told me that by 6 pm, they had done over half a million in sales.

Thanks, actuually managed to get 2 cars in my garage last night! The Buick is of course one of them..... Tampa hasn't been hit head on with a hurricane since 1921, so its not as bad as everyone thinks. Hurricanes form in the Ocean all the time, but we really dont get hit that often. Now NC seems to always be getting punished! Anyhow, beleive it or not, I have to go to work this morning..... :moonu:

See you on the other side!

Bonnie wasn't much for us, thanks goodness!

Now we will see about Charley. Winds this morning were up to 120 mph.

Forcasted winds for us are around the 40 range with tons of rain.

hold on jon and don't let buick_350x worry you none. There is danger no matter where you live.

Yeah Jimmy, its like that wherever you are. You can fall and slip on ice in the North.... at least we dont have that problem.

Well, it looks as if the Gods are smiling down on me right now, because we are in the direct path of the storm, but have gotten no bad weather. My town is just on the outskirts of the storm, and I mean JUST on the outskirts! I think we have dodged a bullet, but there is still a real bad storm out there, so dont count chickens.......

I could go take pictures...but the puddles are smaller than what we had last week even.

I live in Holiday, right near NPR, along US 19.

We left inland some, and was so relieved when the weather man started suggesting it was moving east. Then it did.

Oddly enough, our neighbor moved from across the street to Port Charlotte, and sold me his old Datsun. Then this hurricane comes in and slams into Port Charlotte. Guess the car wasn't meant to be destroyed just yet.

Looks like Charley is going a little east of us and we should on get winds in the 30 mph range and lots of rain.

I hope everyone in Florida is OK, and SC!
