Does anyone have the 1969-70 back window defogger kit with the motor, hose, grille and ductwork? My car originally came with the defogger that was mounted on the driver's side speaker hole( on the passenger side, there was only one speaker used). Since I want to use two speakers,I need this other type of defogger. Thanks for the help guys.
Carl, Someone installed the defogger in the wrong location. The defogger goes between the speakers. There is a round hole and a square hole for it. The only difference between 70 and 71-2 is the later versions had plastic grills shaped as a rectangle. The 69-70 versions had a metal grill with a rectangular shape with one corner radiused.
George, Some very early 70 cars had a rear window defogger that looked like a long thin slot. The rear shelf sheetmetal also came with this same cut-out. Later in the 70 production year the defogger was changed to the type you posted. Carl, If I am reading you right you are going to use 2 rear speakers and then put the car in Concours? Duane
Thanks for posting the pictures, George, and thanks guys for your information. I've seen on various cars, that this grille was mounted either off to the side(left speaker)or in the center. I have the metal speaker grille(the better of the two). With your advice, I will be putting it in the center. Duane,it was just a thought-I thought that it would make for proper sound separation and since it is very simple to disconnect the other speaker for concours,I felt that I wasn't doing anything wrong by trying it.
Thanks for the pic Joe, never found one of them in the local FL salvage yards. Always find the 71-76 style. As for the rear defogger operation, it simply blows air on to the glass. No heater/hot wires are part of the set-up.
How these work is they have an inlet side and an exhaust side. On the intake side,it draws cabin air(hopefully your heater is working)and then disperses the air onto the back window. That's why the vents are shaped differently.
