How hard would it be to put in a cd player, and 3 10" subs in a 67 Electra. The guy that owned the car before me cut out the stock sterio area. Now there is a big gaping hole stareing at me. also any ideas on where to put speakers at up front?

Are you willing to lose a lot of trunk space for those subs?

I had a set of RF 12" subs in a ported enclosure in my 71 LeSabre. The box basically ate all the room up in my trunk. I had a set of 6x9's in the package tray behind the back seat, and two tweeters in the dash. The system absolutely ripped.

I hid the amp under the drivers seat and ran all the wires under the carpet. I also had a Sony CD player head unit where the old radio was. The dash definitely had to be cut to get it to fit. How big is the hole in your dash??

I have a fuel cell in the trunk, so pretty much all of my trunk space is gone. I do however have about a four foot or so rear deck area where the subs could potentially fit nicely. The hole is about ten inches or so. it looks like it was cut just where the stock knobs were.

Have you thought about hollowing out the back of your backseat and mounting the subs facing the REAR of the car? hmmm.....this is something I may want to try on something:Brow:

It sounds like you will be able to mount an aftermarket CD player in your dash with no problems.

I think the only problem you'll have if you mount the subs in the rear package tray, is building an enclosure around the backs of the speakers to maximize the sound. They will sound like a$$ if there's nothing behind them. I would try consulting with a local sound shop to see what their opinions are on the best route to take. This is what I did, and I ended up getting a killer deal on my 12's from them.

sounds good. I have previous speaker fitting skills. I got three 10" JL w-3's in the back of my Old Neon and still could put my stroller in the back with some extra grocery room(not a lot but some). Regarding the fuel cell, any ideas on a fuel gauge idea? its got all the foam padding in it so a conventional fuel float or lever is out of the question. I boggled.

There is no need to hollow out anything. Sub-bass frequencies (anything under 200hz, which you will be crossing over MUCH lower than that) are not directional, and will go through auto upholstry without any problems. I would build a baffle out of 3/4" mdf or particle board that goes behind the rear seat, and mount the subs to it. The trunk is your enclosure. I have also used the spare tire well in a Toyota with 2 12" woofers mounted in an isobaric push-pull configuration, and it worked great!(and only took enough trunk space for the one woofer to stick up and for the spare tire). If you want to get really creative, make a double-vented bandpass box and run the ports up through the rear deck (don't tell bose though, or they'll sue you). :)
If you have the woofer specs, I can help you with box design.

Bandpass boxes are not a bad idea....they put out some pretty mean low end stuff...

I may put one in my convertible, simply because I have no room for a big box.

Here's what I did, and it worked good:

For the front, I made a plate with 2 3-1/2" holes in it and mounted 80w co axial speakers there.

Same for the rear seat speaker, with a plate with 2 3-1/2" holes in it.

Put a 200w bass tube on the trunk under the shelf.

With a wooden board, using existing holes, I mounted 2 -6x9" tri axials facing the rear seat.

It sounds great from my perspective.:bglasses:

I have 2 6x9 openings in my rear dash, so i'll have no problem with the rear speakers, but the fronts i thought about maybe some kick panels.
    Thanx for all the input

You could put 1 speaker on each side under the dash facing the floor, but they sound best facing you. Also, that makes replacing a fuse a real PITA.:bglasses:
