there is no real secreat. You can have the motor out in about 2 1/2 hours with real basic hand tools. This is how I do it.

    Drain coolant
    Drain Oil
Disconnect fuel lines from the fuel pump
remove the 4 nuts holding the fan on and the 2 screws holding the fan shroud on. Remove these two things at the same time.
Disconnece the battery cables and remove the battery.
    A/C cars only.
Remove the upper A/C bracket from the intake manifold and the compressor. Unbolt the compressor and place the compressor where the battery used to be.
Remove the heater core coolant hoses from the intake and water pump and rest them along the side of the inner fender.
Remove the power steering pump and rest it on top of the steering box.
Disconnect the vacume line going to the break booster
disconnect every thing from the carb and remove the carb.
Bolt on a carb plate (found at most parts stores for $20 or less)
Tuck all the vacume lines and throttle cable out of the way.
disconnect any other wires going to the intake manifold.
Take off both upper and lower radiator hoses.
Disconnect the oil sending unit wire.
    Disconnect the starter wires.
Un-bolt them flex plate cover and remove the three bolts holding the flex plate to the torque converter.
remove the six bolts from the bell housing.
revome the four bolts that hold your exhaust pipes to the exhaust manifold.
Remove the two bolts from the motor mounts.
At this point make sure that you have moved all wires out of the way and you should be ready to hoist the engine out. Use a friend to operate the hoist while you guide the engine out and keep it from damaging any thing.
You can now easily remove any of the accessories with ease and put them on your new engine.

Big tip. Buy a quick disconnect harness for your starter from Year One and install it while the engine is out. It could save you hours worth of time and frustration trying to get the starter wired back up when you re-install the motor.

You may also have to remove the hood, depending on your hoist setup. I was able to take out one bolt on each side, and loosen the remaining on. the let me angle the hood up alot without removing it.

    friends indeed...

Get a second or third person to lend a hand. It goes a long way, even if it's only for an hour or two. I've done two motors myself, it really helps. Where are you located?:Smarty:

    hood

before u remove the hood, either scribe it around/along the hinges & hood or drill a couple of gide holes (carefully) so that when u re-install the hood it can be easily aligned .
