    Uncle Pauly SAY UNCLE!

I have a 65 Skylark convertible, I believe my motor is a 1970 350/4bbl, 2 speed tranny. (I need to check the numbers) My mechanic is a good guy, I've trusted him for many years......with my chevys and ford trucks. Now, I had him install a TA flexplate, so I thought. Turns out one or two of his employees did the work SO.... I checked inside the inspection cover when got home, and there is an OLD used flexplate in there!!!! I am pissed and confused. WHY would someone swap my flexplate??? They are all chevy guys. I let him know I SAW my flexplate in the shop today and his employee swore it was his. He said he will handle it, but I really don't want to go back because I am sure it will get ugly. I am not a master mechanic but I am also not a blind idiot!!!! My car will need more work and I can no longer trust my shop, especially if the the offending employees are not terminated. That combined with the seemingly endless differences with other GM cars that I read about on this forum, I am looking for some local help, that is Buick saavy and loves it. My car is a project, I am mechanically inclined (heck I rode British bikes for twenty yrs!!) just not super equipped or experienced to handle crazy jobs without at least a Buick tutor. I don't mind paying I just want to know I can trust the man who is working on the car my kids are riding in.
Well I feel kind of used and ripped off for no good reason and I will continue to fight the urge to disembowel this rat bast@*d, but I would love some local help, advice, encouragement.

Thanks for letting me bend ears here. This forum has already been a great source of help and enthusiasm, in my search and subsequent purchase.

Problem shops are better judged by how they handle problems. If your kid does something screwy it doesnt always have to tarnish YOUR rep.

Ok, thats a bad example. Based on what you wrote, there seems to be someone on the other side willing to resolve the issue for you. Perhaps you should give them a chance to do so.

If not, its still your choice to make. Im not there, and Im not you.

thats ashame....Im sure you had a very good rapore with the owner. Now youll always be checking his work to make sure you werent ripped off (providing you ever bring your car there again) This is one of the many reasons I do my own work. As long as you have a good set of quality tools, a good floorjack and some jackstands, there's pretty much nothing you cant do in your driveway. I would rather pay 500.00 for tools than give some shop 500.00 to do it for me. Dont be afraid to tackle the big jobs. Those mechanics at that shop arent smarter than you. If you run into a problem, you have all of us to help you out! :TU:

Thanks for the moral support. Paul

PS/ I am going down today to handle this in person. You can take the man out of N.Y. but you can't take the N.Y. out of the man. I'll be civil if possible.

I really like my Buick, and am growing more protective by the hour.

    Repair Shops

Paul, I don't like what I'm hearing! Like posted earlier handle this with the owner. Did the owner see the new part you wanted installed? That is half the battle! I had a friend a long time ago took his GS for some front end work and the machanic (bad GS clone owner) he had the address and the air cleaner and fender emblem were stolen the next day. I think I would just try to get you new part back and find a better shop or like posted earlier do the repairs your self. I've been in the field over 25 years and never seen the kind of super support like with our club. If you have any question fire away! If I don't have the answer I'm sure I have it in print or one of the other members will beat me to it! :beer AL.
