Since installing the cold/ram air setup I've been thinking about upgrading my remaining headlights (see aviator). The inner lights I removed had a two prong connection and the outer lights that remain have a three prong connection. The outer headlight diameter is right at 5.75". The old seal beams work fine but I'd like a brighter light for nighttime driving. I've seen those angle eye headlights and they look cool, but I don't know if I'd go that route, they are interesting. Anybody have some headlight experience to share?
The XE5R's are recommended and very nice, but wow look at the price! http://www.brightheadlights.com/5-7in Round-Projectors.htm I may have to just go with some Halogens to get a reasonable price. I need the "5006" headlights so H5006??, would work (the H is for halogen).
I ordered this setup from Year One: https://yearone.org/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?input=wihl14&SM=1&SC=A Lens/housing with outer ring turn signal light https://yearone.org/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?input=wih4wp&SM=1&SC=A Bulbs https://yearone.org/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?input=wh44&SM=1&SC=A Wiring harness Here is the standard lens housing without the outer ring turn signal light https://yearone.org/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?input=wihl8a&SM=1&SC=A I'll let you know how it goes, should get everything in about 2 weeks.
Yes you do, check out the wiring harness link above. The wiring harness contains relays and designated wires for power and grounding. If you go with regular Halogen lights a special harness would not be needed, but with the brighter Xenon/HID lights it is needed.
Sure, Headlight conversion lens/housing WIHL8A, is the lens housing without the turn signal surround $55.95 or WIHL12, is the lens housing with the turn signal surround $69.95 (three color choices, all included with kit) Bulbs WIH4WP, is the Hyper White Bulbs $19.95 or XQH4WP, is the simulated HID bright white bulbs $29.95 Wiring Harness WH44, is the Painless wiring harness with relays $135.00
I called Year One and found out that the backordered headlight assemblies were no longer offered by the vender. Anyway I ordered some Hella H5006, 5.75" conversion headlight assemblies, they were about $70 for the set from AutomotiveLightingUSA. Here they are installed. Have not driven in total darkness but the pattern looks good on the garage wall last evening while adjusting.
Yes. Gives a nice bright light, with more defined edges of course compared to the stock sealed beams (specially on dim). I've only driven twice when it was really dark, but am happy with the results.
If your not familiar, you may want to check out a 'Hoppy' headlight adjusting kit. These devices aim your headlights perfectly. The before/after difference is staggering.
