I sold my '66 GS console, wiring and shifter on ebay a couple of weeks ago to a guy who asked me if the setup included the shift rod thatt goes on he transmission. He used the buy it now option, I shipped it to him. He emails me a day after he recieved it and tells me that the shifter rod is missing, I asked him if any boxes were damaged and he says no. I personally packed the rod in the box with the shifter and wiring harness and I know it was there. He says now that "the whole setup is useless without the rod" and wants to return the setup. I know it was in the box when it left here, I think he wants the rod and nothing else and is trying to get it at my expense. The guy's username was s.sc, what do you guys thinko No: I don't know if I should tell him to send it back and if it's without the rod he gets no refund or what...
You're probably gettin scammed... Some people got no sense of morals about em. Is he going to pay return shipping? Or does he expect you to foot the bill on that too?
Did the ad say it included the shift rod or was that just in your phone call? If it didn't, and you know you shipped anyway, I would consider it an "extra" and tell him you he get what the ad stated, you know what you shipped, and you know he is trying to scam you. Of course, make 100% sure you shipped it.
Excuse my ignorance since I don't know how rare a part this is but couldn't you find one here on the board and offer to send it to him. If he got the rod originally and is trying to scam it from you this might quiet him up, if not it'll cost you a few bucks. My .02
I think Chris has the right idea. Go with what was documented in the Ad. One more tip for the future though, send all packages with the $4 insurance. If this happenes, wether or not the guy is scamming you, as the shipper you can file for a lost part and claim the insurance. If this guy really isn't on the level USPS will investigate and get him on the bigger ticket items.
If he recieved everything thats in the auction photo and what was "stated" in the auction then I think its a done deal myself.....If you packed the rod then something is up if he says he aint got it now, just send him a nice email that you sent him everything and he recieved everything. I've had one person try this with me, he said he didn't recieve his package, I ran the number with UPSs and it showed the time, date and even that it was sat on his porch....I emailed the info to the guy and told him that I did send his package and that I'm sorry that something happen to it after it got to his home....he left me positive feedback about 2 hours later and I haven't heard a thing from him since. Best of luck!....I remember the console..it was a nice one!
eBay On taking a return there is one problem, if you the seller know 100 percent sure you sent the rod and the guy claims he didn't get it you may find a different item come back to you, Careful!!! How was the guys feed back score? And how is yours, the reason I ask this is because you may take a hit on this on. If you need anymore on this PM me, Good Luck, AL
Re: eBay I thought about this and I think I would find the buyer a rod that is if you have excellent feed back score and leave it to experance. I've been lucky on the items I've sold but once in a wile you see this. I would not do a return with this guy but find him another rod to shut him up and hope he still gives you positive feed back, AL.
Hey Artie, I got a rod from a 66Riv GS that you can use to test the waters on this. If you need it let me know. Lou Grimaldi
Ebay Auction Here's the link to the auction. I just looked at his feedback and it seems he just bought another console and shifter right before he bought mine. I think the other setup he bought was missing the rod and he couldn't find one so he decided to try and swindle me for one. I am not sure what to do as my feedback is pretty good and I don't want to screw it up because of one a--hole. Should I find him another rod and eat the cost, or offer to send him the rod that Lou offered, as bait? All his feedback is from buyers, only a few from sellers so it wasn't hard to find the console auction he won. Any advice appreciated, before I just accept bad feedback on this and call it an experience?
I would show him that you see what he is up too and you can not be a part of his BS games. If he bought 2 he is thinking your console isnt needed now so he wants a refund. I would tell him that it WAS there now its not so he needs to look for it in the packing. especially if you know it was shipped!!!
Artie...just a tip for you so you dont get burned next time....take a digital pic of everything in the box next time....if another person starts doubting wether you packed something or not..just tell them, I took a digital pic of everything packed and its in there :Brow: .....its a dam shame people are just not honest anymore
There are two shift rods ...There's one from the trans to the shifter (under the car)...There's another rod on the top side on a '66 shifter....Your auction pic shows both...the other console he bought shows none....hmmmmmm This guy bought TWO consoles, 15 minutes apart, both with 'Buy it Now'.....seems odd. I've made 'repo' shift rods...not too hard...3/8" or 1/2" round stock, heat with a torch, and bend it..... I just pulled the trans from my '66. I could make a 'repo'...if necesssary...just trade me something for it....
Artie, I had a problem on eBay a couple of weeks ago. I bought something and it was not exactly what I thought it was. I fought back and forth with the person. Finally they offered a partial refund. How much is the rod worth? I would offer him a partial refund for the value of the rod. That is the best way I think to solve it. Good Luck. Jerseysky66
