    Sorry about the crappy picture.

This car has been sitting for years in a garage up the street from my parents house. I'm thinking late 60's 2 Dr LeSabre. What do you guys think? I admit I don't know the big Buicks that well...

Someday I'll ring the door bell and inquire as to what the status of the car is. Maybe there's a boat in my future...

I am thinking maybe a late 60's Wildcat? That and a LeSabre look very similiar to me, definitely s/b one or the other.

It's definitely not a 4 door. Take a closer look.

My guess is it's a 68 LeSabre or Wildcat.

    Your right

Your right, I was to busy figuring out the right year and added an estra set of doors - it is a 69 LeSabre 2 Door Hardtop in what appears to be Trumpet Gold paint with a Buckskin Vinyl Top or a dirty White Vinyl Top

    1969 LeSabre 2 door

I think it's a 1969 LeSabre 2 door. Check out the pictures on this site for comparison. http://joes_buick.tripod.com//pictures/buick/buick.html

I love 3/4 of this car. The rear is good, the sides are great (like 2 ocean waves) the front end doesn't work for me. It's all personal opinion some people love it. If I had one I'd look into creating some form of hidden headlight to take the "dazed & confused" look away.

Wow, those hide-aways look outstanding! I can't believe they didn't put them on at least as an option. Must have been too much of a PIA to maintain. If I had $5 for every old Rivvy and Corvette I've seen with one set open and one set closed, I'd be rich.

    Thanks guys! :TU:

I actually like that front end look. It's tough looking. I'll have to make it a point to stalk, er, talk to the owner. :)

It is either a 1969 or 1970 LeSabre 2 door hardtop (look at my avatar).

If you can get a better pic of the rear bumper I could give you a positive ID. Here's why -

The pic looks like there is a sheet metal piece under the rear bumper (like mine) that would be painted the same color as the car. That would make it a 1970 model year.

If the rear bumper goes from the lip of the trunk all the way down to the lower edge of the car (all chrome), than it will be a 1969 model year.

Also, the 2 years use different tail lenses. If you can get a better pic, post it and I can give you more info.

It is not a Wildcat - there are no chrome pieces under the chrome strip on the front fenders. 69 had 4 separate pieces, 70 had 2 separate pieces.

    Hope this helps!

    69

Without question it is a 69 LeSabre coupe - the 70 taillights wraped around the bumper ends, the 69 did not.

    Keith:

You're correct about the tail lights - I just can't tell from the pic. The wrap around piece is actually a reflector.

Either way, 69 or 70, I'd take it!

OK, so I talked to the owner of this car. It is indeed a '69 Lesabre "400". From what I understand, the 400 designates it as a 350/4 with higher compression than the two barrel and a TH400. It's got 181,000 on it. The motor was rebuilt approximately 40kmi ago. I think the tranny was redone too. It's an AC car (works) with no power windows or doors. It's a manual drum car ( :eek2: ). The exterior is in decent shape with the only spot of rust I see in the lower pass fender. The owner did say it has some body work years ago, but I'm not sure exactly where. The car looks pretty good, although the paint is faded and the chrome is dull on the bumpers. The front seat needs to be recovered, I don't remember what the backseat looks like. It's a paint code 65 D car.

The owner told me he's getting ready to sell. Based on what I described above, what do you guys think this car is worth?? :Do No:

I'm really a bad guess on what it'd be worth, but I'd guess about 2k or so...maybe. But I doubt the owner has any clue how much it's worth. Try for a grand or so. The engine has some high milage on it, but the body being not crappy is a huge plus. Check the trunk floor and frame though, as I've had two of these cars where that's an issue.

    just my 2 cents.

Oh, the easiest way to tell the Cat and LeSabre apart is just by looking for the port holes on the front fenders...no ports, and a ventlike thing on the bottom of the fender means Wildcat. Ports means LeSabre.

Oh, and that pic above with the photoshoped front end...that's badass...I never cared for the front of the 69s that much, but that just looks mean!

I, too, have had bad luck with the frame rotting on these cars. Mine was a 69 LeSabre 4 door, and a Michigan car to boot. There were tons of areas in the frame where salt, dirt, moisture, etc. could get in and get stuck and just start chewing away. The next body style, in my limited experience, doesn't seem to have as big a problem as the 69 (and 70 I'm assuming). Mine rotted where the frame made large bends; the bend right behind the front wheel wells, and the bends before and after the rear axle hump. The frames are boxed in parts of these areas, so what gets in just can't get out. I would bet Romy had problems in the same areas. You could actually wiggle the rear bumper from the rot behind the axle hump. Romy might have other areas to look into, as well, even if he thinks the 70 models look better (he's wrong, that's a sweet looking car). The 70s are nice looking cars, too, I just think they had it nailed the first time around. A little curvier lookin'.

Unless they changed the comp. ratio when they rebuilt the motor, it should have 10.5:1 ratio. Somewhat high for today's gas, but I bet you could figure out how to get it to work. Oddball rear end, too, if that matters.

He's asking $3k for it. Seems high to my way of thinking considering it could use some cosmetic work. Maybe it'd be worth that to someone else here who's really into the big cars. If anyone is interested, I could put you in contact.

Sorry I'm late, but it's a '69 lesabre or Wildcat....

one of the diferences between the '69 and '70 models is the location of the portholes....

Duh!!!! 69 - Above....70 below the trimline. I'm up too late and not thinking straight!

for $3K....mmmm. if you need some parts...it might be worth it

Well, gathering that it's only option is AC (we're going to ASSUME power steering was standard - and power brakes were not???!!!!), and that it needs about $400 in upholstery (at least), paint and some rust repaired (and we don't know the condition of the frame and trunk/floor)... Even if the window channels, frame, trunk and floor are solid he's going to choke on it before someone takes it for 3K. With so few options you'd need to transplant power brakes and windows for it to be really worth driving such a big car.

Looks to be worth more in parts.

    $900 tops.

I agree that it'll probably just sit there longer at that price...

    It does have power steering.

The top needs to be replaced too. If I were to be interested, it would just be to have a Buick to drive, I wouldn't be fixing it up anyway. Already got me a project.
