Is there any way to increase idle when AC is on without using a solenoid. I dont see any way to hook one up on my Skylark with Edelbrock carb and intake. I dont like the way it idles when the compressor is working.
Edelbrock sells an a/c idle solenoid device that fits on the carb base. Kinda spendy @ $139.00 though. Look on thier web page under accessories I think.
Jegs has the kit on ebay for $112.00(?) & shipping, another $6.00. I ordered mine last night. I agree it is very pricey, but they know they have you by the short hairs unless you are willing to fabricate your own bracket and use an old solenoid.
Jegs is FAST! I received my solenoid kit today! The shipping/handlling was $12.99, not $6, sorry for the mis-quote.
Found out that the solenoid portion of the Edelbrock is out of a mid-eighties Ford, among others. So if you ever have a failure keep that in mind.
Ok - I have a 870 Holley Avenger - any ideas on how to overcome th slow idle when the ac is on? (using a holley) thx Buickstaged
Make a run to the junk yard and start looking for anything with a carb and a/c. Most of the fords, jeeps and such will have some sort of an idle solenoid. Find something close to what you need and start fabricating. If the avenger is similair to an AFB or Quadrajet, or holley you will have an idea what will work. Make sure you use longer carb studs to accomodate the thickness of the mount.
Holley sells a solenoid and bracket similar to the Edelbrock. I have a Holley on my '79 Vette with the A/C solenoid installed (those 'Vette's get awfully hot inside). http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-46-74/ http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-20-72/ If this is the right solenoid bracket for you I have one that I bought and could not use, still in the package. I'll sell it to you for $10.00 & shipping.
I lucked up and found one used on ebay with the bracket but I appreciate the offer. It really works well and advances the idle which compensates for the compressor drag. I bet someone would like to have the bracket and buy the solenoid you suggest since that is less expensive than the edelbrock one. Thanks anyway. This would be a good deal for someone.
