I haven't been to the Nationals since 1997 but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a Sportwagon towing a Sportwagon in '96 or '97. It was very cool. Cheers, Laura
well, I'm nominating my old time Buick buddy Mike Garrison. He has logged some serious miles both in the 1/4 mile as well as the highway to Bowling green since I met him in 84-85. He knows these Buicks inside and out and can flat drive them. Not to mention all the work he used to do for the Midwest GSCA Chapter...definite asset to the Buick world.
The Lawrence Welk Racing Team......Joe Taubitz(the old guy-V8 board-holding rod/piston) and crew. Peace WildBill
Basketball Sam's Mom! She was the oldest person to go down the quarter mile in HER GSX! Another nominee is Pam from Texas who always volunteers in the registration tent. We also remember her doing a burnout in reverse gear in her GSX! How about the Bonecutters of the Chicagoland chapter. They always can be counted on to volunteer year after year to help everyone at every Buick event have a great time. Paul
Alan, do you mean John Sr's '73 GS? If so, it was blue. If you meant John Jr's white GSX clone, it was an automatic. Well, what's it gonna be?
Sorry, brain-fade John Sr. in the BlewByEwe :TU: Lets also add Gary Paine,Paul Pernat and Weldon to the 68/69 Stepchildren GS DreamTeam We cant forget Roberta - back in 93 ?? I saw that Red 68 Convert for the first time, Rowing the gears down the track and was in awe. Went looking for the car and its owner and saw Roberta standing next to it. Being the n00b I was I asked her where the owner was ... I wanted to talk !! After schooling me ... I dont think she talked with me for another 5 years ... That same year I met June. Gave her a ride in BigRed around the pits back to her spot and could not believe it when she told me that she has a GSX and races it !! Totally blew mw away
OMG, Wild Bill to drag that out of the dungeon, who's piston/rod is Joe holding, why am I not in the picture, but my car is, the old guy will be in BG next week, probably, when will you be there? so so so.............we can Party like it was in 1993 when this picture was taken????????????
That would be Scott "POPS" Coffman's piston that Joe has in his hands. Scott broke a rod, cleaned out the lifter galley and sent the back half of the camshaft into the converter, not a pretty sight! Remember those days fondly, didn't relize how much fun we were actually having!!!
I'd also like to nominate Jim Rorabaugh, read about his black 70 in the xtra, then got to see him and the car (with paint rubbed to the primer) my first year at the nats. Also,I've got to give my vote to the Dinosoar as one my favorite racecars.
OMG, no body even thought of Pop Kennedy. What about Guy's Reynolds Buick Stage 2. Even Guy himself for restoring a piece of Buick history. A couple others I can think of: George and Ellen Hall Jim Bell Tim
I always loved the Dinosaur. When you looked at the rear it looked like wall to wall "sneakers".  Of course my favorite would be the TA wagon. You just have to appreciate something that big going that fast. Duane
I can think of a few more, John Chamerblain, he won a shootout in 85 that, imho, helped launch our cars into popularity. I think he ran 13.3x and for that time, that was flying. Also, the Dihles (Ken and Norm). I think one of their cars was the first to test the ATI club converter that was published in the GSXtra. The Diabo brothers and their GSX and Bob Lindquist who raced in the second match up between the Stage 1 and a hemi (Diabo's were raced in the 3rd match up.)
You cant forget about the Silver Bullet. Wasnt that in a MCR magazine shoot out back in the 90s and he won! Another great gear jammer! :3gears:
Ya think? :idea2: I can't believe it took till post 25 for someone to mention that. Thank you for that. The same Ol Blue that spanked the hemi. Ol Blue is number one on my list. I don't care how many Buick cannons there are out there running 7's or 8's in the quarter. I've got no axe to grind with Rich Lassiter. If it were not for him there would be no "Buick" community as we know it and Ol Blue backed up what he professed about the Buick's power/torque.
