Well, I got the "rebuilt" distributor from Autozone ( 30-1814). The first thing I did was take out the points, condenser and stock springs. In went my Pertronix I and 2 gold springs. After setting the initial timing at 12 degrees BTDC, I cranked her up. My centifugal advance is all in by 2500 RPM now, so the timing light said. I took my children out for a test ride, and proceeded to scare my 12 year old daughter a bit. My 10 year old son is, of course, figuring out a way to own his own Buick at age 16. The power was there, and it was nice to hear the engine wind up quickly. Now to obtain some adjustable pushrods. I've got a bit too much lifter "preload" due to shaved heads and several valve jobs, and I feel this is robbing me of a little power. I'd like a comment from someone who uses them now, and suppliers to use. Russ Waters 1970 Skylark Convertible 455
adj pushrods Hey Russ, We had to go the adj pushrod route with my car a couple yrs ago. Went with Poston's and Steve David set them up. I'm sure TA probably has them too but went with Poston's due to a time factor since the shipping is fast from AL to GA. All has been well on that end since that job and the car did see more power and a smoother running state after the install. Give me a call at home sometimes and we'll catch up on all things! Hope the golf course is being good to you! :bglasses:
I'd use one of the "checker" pushrods to determine the length you need, and just order the one-piece units for your application. One less thing to worry about later since there's no adjustment to loosen up, and you know every single one is the same. Artie
Hey Russ, I'm running them in the red GS. I have not had any problems with them yet. They aren't hard to set up either. Evans has my # if you need anything.
