I have a little carb trouble that indicates a rebuild is in order (the fuel wells drain after a couple of days). I just decoded my Qjet and found out it is from a 1980 Pontiac.

Are there inherent problems with late model carbs that indicate I should replace it with a correct year carb, or do you recommend I have it rebuilt? I kinda want to find correct carb anyway. What do you think?

Is that a 71 GS you've got? Personally, I would try to find a carb that is more suitable for the application. That 80 Poncho carb is totally wrong for what you want.

7041544 is the carb you are looking for. That's the carb for the 1971 350. You could also use 7040244 (1970), 7042244(1972), or 7043244(1973), or 7044244, 7044246(1974). Happy hunting.

Oh, and fuel evaporating, or leaking from the small float bowl in a Q-jet, that's a common problem. If the carb isn't otherwise acting up, it's OK.
